Wordful Wednesday – The Flu

Wordful Wednesday 411: Wordful Wednesday is like Wordless Wednesday, except WITH words.  It’s for those of us that just cannot be wordless, no matter how much we try.  Add my Wordful Wednesday badge to your post (right side bar under “WW”) if you really want to make me happy, and then add your post link to the linky below. Easy peasy.

One of the perks of having a Pharmacist for a husband is that he can administer the flu vaccine to us and we don’t have to go to the doctor.  This is sort of a moot point though, because I hate getting the flu vaccine.  Up until this year, I’ve only gotten it once before.  It was 9 years ago and I was pregnant with Garrett.  My arm was so sore for 2 weeks after I had the shot that I swore I’d never get the shot again.

This year, however, Jeff convinced me that we really should get the flu vaccine and it would be super easy because he could give it to us lick-ety-split.

And he did.

Yet we all still got the flu.

I’m never getting the flu vaccine again.

  • Thanks to Miss Elainous Life for proving that kid photo fails are universal and that anyone who can take a decent photo of a group of kids without anyone screaming, rolling away, or posing with their skirt flipped over their head is a professional and should be paid accordingly.
  • Blogging while a war is waging near your home is not something most of us would feel like doing.  Thank you to Around the Island for sharing her experience during the war in Tel Aviv as things reach back towards normalcy.

  1. I haven’t gotten the vaccine in several years either. It’s kind of a crap shoot with the strain the choose I think, right? Anyway, sorry you were sick. I had it back at the end of August and it was THE. WORST. Hope everyone feels better ASAP!

  2. I thought I was the only one that happened to! Last time I got the vaccine I got the flu the next day!

  3. I hope you guys get to feeling better. I will NEVER get the flu shot. I get the flu shot and we get sick. When I don’t get it we rarely get sick.

  4. I am so sorry you guys got sick! I don’t get the flu vaccine, but sometimes my kids do. Sometimes. 🙂

  5. Oh man, that sucks. I’m sorry you guys are down and out. If it makes you feel any better (which I’m sure it won’t), I refuse to get the flu shot too.

  6. LOL! My first time getting the flu shot was in college – and it was the LAST time I got one, too! It was the only time I ever got the flu and I was miserable. So I gave up on them. I’m thinking maybe my mom let me eat off the dirty floors enough times when I was a kid that that’s why I haven’t gotten it before or since. 😉 But don’t let me jinx myself…

  7. Aww, that stinks! I hope you all feel better soon!!

  8. You poor things, how miserable. That’s why I don’t get a flu shot – the time I tried I ended up miserably sick just from the shot, and still got sick later. So not worth it.

    Feel better soon!

  9. So sorry to hear about y’all getting the flu! I’ve never had a flu shot. I detest shots anyway, but it would be my stupid luck I’d get the full-blown flu from the shot. Feel better soon! Your poor lil guy looks out cold! I love the ring he’s wearing, though 🙂

  10. Poor little guy!!! Hope he feels better soon. That face.

  11. I’ve heard the same thing that you can get the flu! I take my chances. lol – I don’t want the shot of the flu. Seems like the worst of both worlds right there. 🙁

Hope you all get to feeling better soon.

  12. Well, ick. Sorry you guys are feeling yucky. I’m awful about admitting that I’m sick. Literally went to the hospital with pnuemonia last year afer a month of telling everybody I just had a little cold! Get to feeling better 🙂

  13. UGH! That is awful! Look at his poor rosie cheeks. Get well soon!

  14. Oh no! 🙁 Hope everyone is feeling better soon!

Last year was the 1st time in 5yrs I got the shot and I ended up with the flu also. 🙁 This year is the 1st time since my kids were babies that they did not get the shot.

  15. I swore off the flu vaccines because every time I got one, I ALWAYS got the flu. Go figure. Hope you all feel better soon! ((HUGZ!))

  16. I’ve been getting the vaccine for at least 10 years now. This is the first year I got anything close to the flu and even then it still didn’t seem like a full-fledged flu if that makes sense. So, I guess timing really does matter. The claim is it takes a good two weeks before the vaccine is fully into your system and able to prevent anything so if you get it too late (which I did, not until October) and the virus has already started circulating… Right now I still have a cough. A nasty, constant cough that I have named The Consumption.

At the same time, I do tend to feed into the disbelief of the shot preventing anything, so there’s that. Hope everyone’s on the mend now.

  17. Well it won’t prevent you from getting the flu but if you get it, it will help lessen the blow. Boo to flu

  18. I just want to bring you guys some homemade chicken soup!

  19. Better to take your chances, I say. They kinda have to guess on the strain anyway, right?
we never get it. of course, we don’t get vaccines either…

  20. Aww no! I hope everyone get well soon. Being sick with the flu is no fun. But it’s great you have a husband looking out for y’all!

  21. I am so sorry! I hate the flu and we are always sicker when we get the flu shot, so I refuse to get it. And I don’t get it for my kids either. One year, the way it worked out was that about half of my kids got the flu shot and the other half I never managed to take in. Wanna guess who got sick? Yup. The ones WITH the flu shot. I hope everyone is well soon!

  22. My husband deals with the public so he gets the flu shot every year as well as getting the flu. I have never gotten the shot and haven’t had the flu in years. Sorry you all have had it.

  23. It’s hitting all of us too! Hang in there mama!

  24. I think that I went my entire life without getting a flu shot… then over 2 yrs ago I got one. The only reason that I got it was because I was pregnant and they were all worried about the swine/bird flu or something. I haven’t gotten one this year.. probably won’t either.

I hope that you’re all feeling better.

  25. wow… hope yall get to feeling better…
