Wordful Wednesday-The Best Pet?

Welcome to Wordful Wednesday……for more information, see “WW” inΒ  my handy dandy tabber box in my right side bar.

My kids have been asking me for a puppy for ages. And keep getting shot down. So, when they were introduced to the idea of a snake as a pet, they were excited. They listed all the perks:

  1. No poop to clean up.
  2. Hardly ever eats.
  3. Doesn’t shed…..well except for once a year…..or whenever it is that they shed.
  4. Doesn’t make noise.
  5. Doesn’t stink.
  6. Is fun to hold.

I was totally almost sold.Β  Until I remembered.

I hate snakes.

Really hate them.

Or, to be more precise, am incredibly afraid of them.

Sorry kids.

  1. I hate snakes too. my cousin had some growing up –there is smell with them too.

  2. I hate snakes. And gerbils. And mice. And everything else my kids are begging me for. Isn’t having 5 kids kind of like having pets, anyway?

  3. LOL Um yeah. That won’t be a pet I’ll give a thumbs up to either.

  4. The list of perks is almost convincing…but there’s no way I could handle one in the house either!

  5. eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeks! I am scared of snakes. Good call!

  6. ewwk for snakes!

  7. I was about to have a heart attack for you. I can’t believe that you would let them have a snake. Thankfully you didn’t and I can get back to my normal breathing again.

  8. Yeah, I was going to say the whole part about it being a SNAKE freaks me out!

  9. UGH — no, no, no, no, NO!

    {shudders}

  10. I’m with you, Angie! πŸ™‚

  11. Ewww, I agree!

  12. I can honestly say, they don’t bother me unless they grow larger than I am. I still vote for the puppy instead.

    Love and Hugs ~ Kat

  13. You should tell them that all the bugs and creepy crawlies outside are their pets. Encourage them to find them all and name them. That way, they get their pet, and you get them out of your hair for a few hours.

  14. I don’t mind snakes, but I DON’T do spiders!!

  15. NOTHING from the reptile family is allowed any where near my house. I’m terrified of all of that kind of stuff. Ugh. Gives me the shivers just thinking about it. Animals that kill those kinds of things (cat, mongoose… can you have a mongoose for a pet like in Riki Tiki Tavi?) are totally on the thumbs up list… as long as they stay outside.

  16. I don’t think I would be able to have snakes – they freak me out.

    Happy WW!!!

    http://mymommyadventure.blogspot.com

  17. Oh gross! I hate snakes more than even spiders and I really HATE them too! LOL

  18. I would not be able to sleep with a pet snake in the house…ickkk!!!

  19. I am so with you!

  20. I’m totally with you. YUCK!!! Happy WW.

  21. Me too. But, I was okay with turtles. Which is why we had some. Until today. When they died:(. Yep, the week after I post about how happy they made me and how cute they are and how proud I am that we have kept them alive so long they up and die. Just go for a pet free home. That’s what we’re gonna do.

  22. I couldn’t do snakes either…so I let him have some frogs. πŸ™‚ Great pictures!

  23. Oh no way could my kids have a pet snake, they’re lucky I can stand to take them into the reptile house at the zoo. I hate snakes! But if you’re in need of some hot dog buns, my dog is just the pet you need. Check out my WW post and you’ll understand!

  24. Uh yeah, totally with you on that one. No snakes in this house. As us Texans like to say. NO WAY JOSE! ;0

  25. Totally with you on this one.

My husband wouldn’t even agree to a hermit crab!

  26. Ugh ! yeah, I definitely could not do snakes.

  27. I was about to totally freak and say, ” What is wrong with you???? A snake for a pet. YUCK!” LOL
    Phew!
    I can not stand them! My brother had a pet snake many years ago and it got out of it’s cage and we never found it again but every once in a while, we’d find it’s skin {shudder}

  28. Poor kids. Mean mom. I don’t get what’s wrong with snakes.

    Kidding! πŸ˜‰

  29. And the stuff you have to feed them is more “lively” (crickets, rats, whatever!) than cat or dog food.

  30. Growing up in Tucson, we had pet tarantulas… I am now terrified of spiders LOL.

We have one cat and that’s it right now, I couldn’t do anything that needs a cage or… eats other animals.

  31. MommyNamedApril says

    egads! snake?! no WAY!

  32. I am totally with you on the snakes! Thank goodness we already have cats and fish and that’s the end of pets for us.

  33. Oh I am so not a snake fan either. Instead of poop to clean up you would have snake skin to clean up! YUCK.
I did obnoxious videos of Tyler finally walking for my WW!

  34. Yes, maybe a puppy would be a better choice πŸ™‚

  35. Why didn’t I think of a snake before we got the bunnies. My niece had a snake and it would poop on you.

  36. Luckily, my husband and I are both quick to agree that we will NOT be having a snake as a pet EVER!!!
    Happy Wordless Wednesday.

  37. You had me worried for a minute there. Snake are a definite “NO” in my house. I would never be able to sleep again if we had one living with us. Eek!

  38. The pup is sounding pretty good, right about now!

  39. My kids are desperate for a pet but I can’t even stand to look at a snake on t.v. I have seen a real snake in person twice and it was tramatic. YIKES!!! I haven’t figured out the perfect pet yet so we remain without.

  40. Yeah…don’t think I’d go for the snake either. What if it got loose??? πŸ™‚

  41. Yeah…I’m with you. No dice on snakes or dogs!

  42. No legs or 8 legs? Not allowed in the house!! Thank God hubby and I both agree on that!

  43. And I am sure you would just love feeding time! It is not like you can store rats in your cabinet and throw one into the cage once in a while. You have to go to the pet store and buy one every week.

  44. We just caved in and got our first dog (my first ever) this week. Ours was “used” (a la the SPCA) so no poop learnin’! (Paid our dues with twinfants there, didn’t we? πŸ˜‰ )

Good luck with the serpent! πŸ˜‰

  45. No snakes in my home, either!

  46. I AGREE with you!

They do have those pros but if a snake was in my house. I could not sleep!!! I’d have anxiety attack!

    Aloha!

  47. I love your sense of humor! Sorry kids. Hillarious! I agree, snakes are nasty!

  48. You and I share the same phobia. And I thought it was genetics because my mom and her mom are all deathly afraid of snakes too. But it looks like it may have skipped a generation with your kids πŸ™‚

  49. I am joining in for the 1st time. Wonderful pictures of your boys enjoying the “pet.” Love their sense of wonder at one of God’s creatures! But, like you, I am afraid of snakes, too! So I know exactly what you mean, lol!

  50. We use to have snakes and it wasn’t the snakes that bothered me. It was the breeding of mice to eat! YUK.

  51. I don’t blame you one bit…yikes!

  52. Puppy fever must be in the air! Except I fell for it. πŸ™‚ Oh well, at least it’s not a snake *shudder* got plenty of those in the backyard!

  53. You scared me for a minute there Angie. A snake for a pet? No thanks…

  54. Great photos Angie! I’m not a fan of snakes either. I’m so thrilled that my children haven’t asked for one. We did buy a puppy and 3 gerbils a few days ago though. I don’t know what I was thinking. Are you sure you don’t want a puppy? I’ve got a cutie for you. Come on over, link up and check out your future puppy. πŸ™‚ Have a great day Angie.

  55. I am so scared of snakes!! I do not know what I would do if my daughter asked for one!! Thank you for hosting!

    http://www.thisadventureourlife.com/look-at-what-i-can-do/

  56. eww, yeah, the fear factor totally outweighs the perks. Ick!

  57. Eeewww. No thank you. Enough said!!!

  58. Of all the pets my kids could ask for, a snake or a mouse would be NO. Nope, Nope, nope. Not happening. What if that thing got loose?!?

  59. NO SNAKE! NO WAY!!! Although I’d probably prefer a snake over a frog/toad. Seriously. Those things gross me out! *shudder* Happy Wednesday! πŸ™‚

  60. EW NO snakes here either

  61. Yeah, I could never do a snake either. But it looks like you had one over to visit?

  62. I used to babysit some boys who had a pet snake. It got lost ALL THE TIME! I was so freaked whenever the mom would tell me that it was on the loose! They fed it baby mice, it was so gross to watch. I can’t say that I was sad to hear that it met a horrible fate when it decided to hide inside the washing machine. I will NEVER let my boys get one of those things, I would die first, lol!

  63. We got an aquarium and some fishes for the boys after they kept on pestering for a pet..so far they are still fascinated by their fishes.

    Happy WW

  64. Eeeeekkk!!! I’m SUPER scared of snakes too. Thank God my kids aren’t too fond of them either. Although I might have to keep an eye on the oldest one to make sure he knows for sure that he can’t bring ANY creepy crawlies up in here. lol.

I actually had to scroll down to the words of your post because I can’t even stand to look at pictures of snakes. Gosh, I know, I’m a dork and I may need professional help, lol.

  65. My kids tried to convince me that a snake was a good pet too. I told them they could have the one the caught from the yard…OUTSIDE! And lucky for me, it escaped, although that means it’s somewhere in the yard. I’m not sure what’s worse.

  66. Oh I agree with you – snakes are my only phobia. I can not even look at the pictures.

  67. I have vetoed all and any pets. Nada. Not one. Because I know I’ll get stuck with taking care of it.

Your kids did build a pretty good case for a snake, though. I think snakes are really cool. My oldest even tried to convince me to get her a pet snake until she found out that she would have to feed it live food, like mice. She ruled that pet out on her own. πŸ˜‰

  68. My grandmother had three boys and a tomboy…she was talked into a snake and – oh – the stories she tells…

  69. Nope, nope, and triple nope! Lol. Give me a big poop filled dog any day! ha ha

  70. The minute I saw the picture, I broke into a cold sweat and my stomach turned…I so hope that none of my kids ever brings a snake into the house b/c I will certainly pee myself (TMI?)!!!!

  71. I am completely with you. No snakes in the house.

  72. YIKES! I’ll take our doggie πŸ˜‰ At least they snuggle…

  73. Way cute, you gotta love boys and their “pets”!

    I linked up this week!

  74. No reptiles and no rodents is a good rule.

  75. Oh I couldn’t handle that either – although they sound like a good deal – what if it got out? I guess you can’t blame your kids for trying though right?

  76. Snakes? No Thanks!!

  77. There will be NO snakes in this house. I hate them and am actually so afraid of them. We went with the dog πŸ™‚

  78. Susie's Homemade says

We are a pet-free house and our kids are just fine:-)

  79. Angie,

Ah yeah…I mean no…Whatever happened to wanting gold fish? I know they die days after brining them home, but at least it gives the children a chance to experience caring for and owning a pet. I know for sure, like you, there will be NO pet snakes (mice, lizards, or anything else that crawls – drags its body across the floor) living inside our home.

  80. I just found your site. Fun! I am happy to join in… And snakes? MY kids were thrilled to touch one during animal Adventures at our library just last night. But, like you, I am not sure I’d get one as a pet – yet. I think we may have to some day with out little explorers – and they are easier than dogs!

  81. i can not stand snakes either!
    good luck!

  82. We have a friend whose hobby is crawly things, and my husband has said that if there is a snake of any size that needs to be taken care of, that I am to call Dave first. And tell him the story when he comes home.

  83. I am also terrified of snakes…but you do make some good arguments for why they make great pets!

  84. oooh no snakes for me either! I’d have nightmares of it escaping and crawling in my bed. (shudder)

  85. lol @ Doesn’t stink

    Thanks for sharing πŸ˜‰

  86. Compared to a snake a puppy is looking better and better isn’t it!

  87. I like your thinking….

    Blessings!

  88. I. Don’t. Blame. You. The end. LOL

  89. Me either! Ugh!

  90. i hope i can still catch up..=)

  91. All I can say is EEEEEEK!! Good decision, MOM!

  92. I like snakes. πŸ™‚ But how about hermit crabs? We got some last week, and they are pretty neat. Maybe less scary for you, too?

  93. no snakes here either!!! my kids want a dog too!

  94. Snakes are SO creepy… ugh!

I am SO late this week!
Stop by and see the hot air balloons at my place anyway, ok Angie?!

  95. Yes, I would have most definitely vetoed that one!

  96. I am completely with you on the no snakes thing….but I have 2 dogs and LOVE them!

  97. I don’t like snakes. I am terrified of them!

  98. I would be giving the ok for another dog way before I would ever give the ok for a snake. Yuck! I’d have to say thats my least favorite option for a pet. I can’t get over my fear of them!

  99. I love Wordful Wednesday. This week I posted in 3 Parts.

  100. Thanks.

  101. i’m with you. i’m BEYOND terrified of snakes.

  102. No snakes in this house either. Perhaps a turtle or a hermit crab might be a possibility?

  103. After becoming a parent, I’ve totally lost interest in pets. We have a cat, but I’m so ready for him to well, head to kitty heaven. (I feel so bad saying that!). It’s enough work to take care of a kid let alone scoop litter boxes and remember to feed the cat. I feel bad, but I think it will be many years until we get another pet. Though child whining can wear a parent down.

  104. Pets are a tough one for me…do three boys count? We got a cat last Christmas because my son asked Santa for one…now that it is grown it is pretty easy.

  105. I draw the line at snakes!

  106. No snakes – No way – No how! You were right!

  107. I don’t understand the need to keep snakes in a cage. I had a friend who had a python, and I was always afraid to stay the night at her house in case it got loose and decided to eat me.

  108. I don’t mind snakes and would prefer one as a pet to a dog I think – I am not a dog lover at all and I know if we ever got one all the walking, feeding and caring for said dog would land in my lap πŸ™‚

  109. I couldn’t handle a snake either. And while I adore our puppy, now 1 & 1/2 yrs, she’s cost us a couple thousand dollars in vet bills. Plus all that she’s chewed through…toys, baseboards, the chair legs to our dining table and three mac book chargers to name a few items. I think you are a wise woman πŸ˜‰

  110. What better way to get over your fear of snakes than to have one as a cute pet? πŸ˜‰

  111. Yeah that’d be a big no for me too… yuck!

  112. Oh my gosh, if only something cute and furry had all those qualities πŸ™‚
