I eat a lot of strawberries.

When I say a lot of strawberries, I mean a lot of strawberries.

Um.  like almost a FLAT of strawberries a week.  Sometimes only 4 pints, but usually more.

I usually eat them on Saturday, Sunday and Monday{by Tuesday they are on their way out since I get them on Saturday}.

Now, here’s the thing.

I love strawberries, and I’ve never been able to resist them.

Each week I’m given the gift of a flat of  strawberries from my in laws and each week I almost single-handedly devour them.

However, I’m convinced they {and by ‘they’ I mean my in laws} are not just giving me the gift of my favorite fruit, but the gift of health.

I literally have not been sick since I’ve starting eating criminal amounts of berries.

That was all just a long, drawn out way to tell you that every once in awhile I get more than just the gift of fruit and health.   Sometimes I get the gift of a quirk of nature.

Isn’t that weird growth that looks like a frog or lizard wild?

Psst…..I’m guest posting at Ca-Joh’s place today!

If I got a flat of strawberries a week as a gift I’d devour it too…although I would have MAJOR competition from my kids. Evie in particular enhales them whenever we buy them.

I like quirks of nature. They make me feel less freaky. 🙂

My grandmother always makes a fuss when the FLORIDA strawberries are in season. She says the local ones taste best of all. I just bought my first berries of the season…yummy!

Not sure if I could eat one that had a face like that though! = )

I love strawberries also, but ours sadly, are not always in season. They are just beginning to go on sale at the grocery stores, but they don’t taste their best yet. And I gotta have mine with some Cool Whip!

It most certainly does look like a frog or a lizzard! How bizarre!

I LOVE me some strawberries too. Strawberry shortcake, chocolate-covered, strawberry ice cream, strawberry jam – you name it. My ultimate favorite is this dessert called a Crepe Diablotin. Oh my goodness – a chocolate mousse and strawberries filled crepe, drizzled with a sweet cream sauce and whipped cream. Okay – now my mouth is watering…

    Angie,

We would do well together. I eat an incredible amount of strawberries too. I would drive by strawberry fields near my home and they use to be available to me fresh and local almost ten months out of the year; I was in heaven. There are quite a few health benefits from eating strawberries so that is probably why you’re feeling so good. It could also be that they are just a great tasting fruit. Strawberries got me through many bouts of morning sickness.

That growth is CRAZY, and a little bit creepy! Do your in-laws grow the strawberries? I am a huge strawberry fanatic. The best ones I ever had were from a farmer’s market in California that my brother brought home with him from college a while back. Now I just settle for the big things of them at Costco, and I usually have at least one big bowl of them a day. Takes care of my sweet tooth and gotta love the health benefits, too!

What a wonderful gift every week – and with strawberries at sometimes more than $3.00 not only are you getting good health – but a little extra spending money! I am going to try and grow some strawberries this summer!

    Have a great week!

I LOVE strawberries too. I have fond memories of going strawberry picking with my mom and sisters every May. We’d pick pounds and pounds of them, then make jam, frozen strawberry pie and ice cream topping out of all of the ones we couldn’t eat before they’d spoil. Of course for several days we’d be in heaven with fresh strawberries, strawberry shortcake, strawberry pancakes…yum! I’ve taken my kids picking, but no one will eat the berries but me. What’s wrong with these people? Lol.

I’m totally with you on the health benefits too. I try to eat lots of blueberries and strawberries year round for that reason.

That is an odd lizard berry. One of a kind for sure!

  14. 72

I’m pretty certain it’s impossible to eat too many strawberries. I’m not sure if I would have eaten the lizard-looking one, though…

  15. 74

I love strawberries. Well, I love fresh fruit! Blueberries, apples, strawberries…yum, yum, yum. And yes, you will be healthier consuming fruits than all the stuff with artificial preservatives! Add some blueberries to that strawberry habit and you will be healthier than ever!

I eat whatever is in season and haven’t been sick in 2 years! I don’t eat meat and have more energy than I did when I was in my 20’s. Something to be said for overhauling your food choices!

PS…Did you eat the lizardy strawberry?

PSS..I can read your blog in Google reader but can’t comment, so I at least get to keep up! When I go on vacation I will have to email my comments to you! LOL

There was a time when I couldn’t stand the sight of strawberries – I think I ate too many as a kid, if that’s even possible. That all changed when I was pregnant with Noah though and I can’t get enough of them now!
That one strawberry really does look like a frog!

When we were in CA last summer, we went to a farmer’s market. We bought a quart of strawberries and ate them before we even got to our car! Then we turned around and bought 2 more quarts. They tasted like candy… juice dripped down our faces and it was bliss.

How cute is that little animal strawberry!

I love strawberries too and even got the first one from my yard last week, but I’m not sure I could consume a flat of them every week no matter HOW healthy it made me. I usually buy organic strawberries weekly at the local Farmer’s Market and enjoy the few produced in my own yard as they show up.

I love Strawberries and used to eat them like this when I lived with the in laws, however I started to break out while eating them one day and it seems I might be a tad allergic so now I only eat a handful at any setting…say four or five.

That’s so wrong though since I used to devour / inhale strawberries!

    Berry happy Wednesday to you!

I love strawberries! In fact they are on my grocery list. I also freeze them individually on a sheet and then once they are frozen I throw them all together into a bag and place them back into the freezer. Now I have frozen strawberries that I can use anytime and they aren’t one solid clump!

    Have a great week!

Lol You’re too funny! I think maybe you’re eating too many strawberries, you need to share some – I’ll be right over! That is truly an oddity, but I’m not surprised. I’ve seen many weird veggies in my day being as I use to love growing veggies in the yard. This year I’m going to try to grow them in pots on my porch. I sure hope it works.
