Wordful Wednesday-{Scary Mommy Guest Post}

Wordful Wednesday is like Wordless Wednesday, only WITH words. It’s for those of us that can’t contain the chatter, but in a good way.

{Please give Jill, my good friend and not-so-scary-mommy a HEARTy welcome.  I’m so excited she’s here!}

As a mother to three young children, I spend a great deal of time trying to capture the perfect picture of them. I know how fleeting time is and I just want to catch them all at their best. I’ve tortured them again and again to no avail.

Last month, we attended a family wedding. The kids were dressed to the nines. My daughter was is the sweetest little sundress and the boys were in matching seersucker suits. Did you hear me? Seersucker suits on my two and four year old boys. I died from the cuteness and, of course spent the whole day torturing them with my camera. Yes, I got some cute ones, but the perfect picture? No.

And, then as we were leaving, I took one more of the three of them. I was saying “come on, come on, one perfect picture,” hoping for three wide smiles, but they took it upon themselves to show their true personalities.

And, to me? It’s perfect. Smart kids.

{Insert commentary from Angie here:  Jill’s kids are smart.  And funny, and just plain gorgeous.  As is Jill.  And, not to spill the beans, but all of you BlogHer attendees will get to see her in person during her keynote address.  Yahoo!}

Angie – hope you are enjoying your anniversary! Mike and I are coming up on our 15th in two days… whoo hoo~!

  16. I have SO been there! Trying to get the perfect family picture with BOTH my boys smiling is worse than going to the dentist!

  17. In the middle of one sibling Christmas picture taking session several years ago, my son reached out and scratched his sister’s face, leaving long nasty red marks. Bah humbug.

This picture that you put up as your WW, I love. Perfect!

  18. That is perfect. It is difficult trying to get that perfect shot with young kids. When I look at catalogs with kids in them I wonder how those photographers do it.

  19. yeah, that’s pretty much how it is for a while, but it DOES get better! still, these pictures are priceless, no?

  20. Always so hard to get that perfect shot. That picture is just so cute! So glad you are guest posting over here. I heart both Angie and Jill!

  21. I am guilty of this too and have many of those photos to prove it. Haha. Happy WW!

  22. I absolutely love that picture. Perfectly capturing their personalities. Those are the pictures that should be on our walls 🙂

  23. those are the best kind of photos… and I say that because that is what most of mine look like, LOL! Kids get so used to the camera in their face, they can’t help but mug! I don’t know how many family photos at least one person have bunny ears sticking up behind there head from someones two fingers!

  24. Great pic! I love the colours and their faces!

  25. Perfectly Priceless! and totally cute!

  26. That picture is so much better than a posed one. A keeper.

  27. I too get more Fun shots then perfect family shots with my boys.

  28. As a mom of three boys I have given up on the “perfect” shot. It never happens, not even with Santa Claus, lol! Your picture is definitely a keeper – I love it when their true personalities shine through 😀

  29. Adorable, but definitely on the keepin’ it real end of the photographic scale. My kids do the same thing – drives me batty!

  33. Best. Shot. Ever. Looks an awful lot like my Christmas cards from last year.

  34. That IS the perfect shot! 😉

  35. Oh I am soooo right there with you. My oldest is 5, my youngest is 20 months. I still haven’t gotten a pic where they are all smiling AND looking at the camera….ahhh, someday!

  36. They are definitely beautiful.

  37. Hilarious! Why do we put our kids through that? I find it so funny 🙂 My have started to smile fake – ugh! Great shot 🙂

  39. I have to agree. That picture is perfect. 🙂 How can you look at it and not smile??

  41. Great pic! I love Scary Mommy.

  42. They are beautiful even when they are being silly!

  43. I’m heartbroken I won’t be there for her keynote. WAAAAH!

But yes, that picture is surely ‘perfection’! 😀

  44. lol it is perfect, your right 🙂

  45. This photo is awesome! I love it!!!!

  46. Ahhhh brings back memories of trying to get that perfect shot for the annual christmas card, lol. I think my head spins around during that shoot, lol.

  47. I wish, wish, wish, I was going!!! I wonder what would happen if I just showed up? Is there a stand by line? I am only a car ride away.

Great photo. Good Luck with the speech

and Angie, you are still my bloggy idol.

  48. Definitely perfect!

  49. Oh, just adorable! So cute.

  50. I just love that picture– it speaks SO much more about their personalities than one where they are stare at the camera and smile. When I did my Week in the Life project last week, I also found that my fave pictures weren’t necessarily the ones with the best quality or the perfect pose, but the ones that capture every day life and the story I was trying to tell.

  51. Looks pretty darned perfect to me 🙂

  52. I loved that photo! Their faces were adorable.

  53. Wonderful guest post. Love children for sure..

Thanks for all of your wonderful thoughts yesterday..

  54. Those seem to be the only types of pictures I get of my 3 kids nowadays! But I love how their personalities shine through.

  55. I love Scary mommy! I’m also a huge fan of imperfect perfect photos. All for personality showing through.

  56. I *big puffy air heart* Scary Mommy! Can’t wait for BlogHer!

Adorable photo, such cuties. And that will be one of the pictures your treasure years from now because it shows who they really are, not that you could happen onto a moment when they were all being “perfect”.

  57. Glad to know that I am not the only one torturing my kids with the camera…with 4 – there is always someone looking away, blinking, talking, laughing or just plain being silly – but looking at this shot of your adorable kids – I love shots like this though – you can truly see their personalities shining through.

  58. I’ve met Jill’s kids in person a few times, and they are even more adorable LIVE (if that is possible).

  59. Love this picture! They are so cute

  60. This is my first Wordful Wednesday! I’m so glad that I’m not the only one who can’t resist adding words to the WW posts.

I love the photo! What cute kids!

  61. That truly IS perfect. I find I love the candid shots of my daughter that show her personality more than the posed ones too.

  62. Kids just do not like to cooperate, do they? 🙂

  63. These are the best photo memories to have! 🙂 They are adorable.

  64. I love their faces!!

  65. I love these sort of candid shots. I think they are a more accurate portrait of the kids. Their personalities come shining through and the shot is perfect.

  66. Love the photo!

  67. I think that is the perfect picture! You will certainly remember the exact thing you were doing at that time when you see that picture when they are all teenagers and irritating you haha!

  68. such sweet and nice kids! nice post..

  69. nice photo of these cute kids!

  70. Your children are beautiful!

  71. It is perfect because, never having met your kids, I get a taste of their personalities. Too cute!

  72. Seersucker suits? I’m now convinced that’s the most adorable kids clothing item in history.

  73. My daughter just hates having her picture taken and if she sees me lurking with mine will scowl and shout “no pictures!” So I know how you feel and on this occasion you got the perfect natural shot and they do look so very adorable with it 🙂

  74. That looks a lot like my family pictures!

  75. Lauren @ Hobo Mama says

That is awesome! Reminds me of a story from my husband’s childhood, back in the days of (horror) film cameras. His father had one picture left, and just as he snapped what was going to be a sweet, smiling shot of the three kids, my sister-in-law leaped forward and shouted, “Hiii-yaw!” Of course, that was much better remembered than a sweet one would have been.

  76. Hiya Scary!!! So glad to see you here, girlfriend!!!

  77. Yo! I’m back! well.. I’ve been back for over a week, but after catching up it feels like I only got back TODAY. 🙂

How goes it in the interweb world!?

I’m super stoked to meet Jill at BlogHer (crossing my fingers anyway!)
With so many attending and um.. her FAME.. yeah… dreaming anyway!

  78. i love the pics that capture a child’s true personality!

  79. Well, I’ll tell ya I think you have a Diva, and especially a couple of Divo’s on your hands! They are adorable.

  80. Some of my favorite pictures are when my girls true personalities come out on.
They do look Adorable!! Super cute kiddies.

  81. love that picture! so beautiful and natural! i would make a big ol canvas of this one.

  82. Her kids are so cute! Love the picture!!

  83. What a perfect, hilarious picture! Freaking adorable. I can’t stop looking at your little guy…I keep wanting to hear what funny sound he must be making in that moment!

  84. Looks like life in your world is never boring – just as it should be. People without kids totally underrestimate the pure entertainment value.

    Beautiful.

  85. Ah, boys will be boys. Adorable!
