Last week was a sad week. We said goodbye to our much loved grandfather and great-grandfather, nicknamed, grandpa Poe. There aren’t many people full of innate goodness like Dean. I can’t even begin to tell you how much he’ll be missed.
It was the kids first loss that they can remember, and even though I think he was ready to go home, we are all still pretty heartbroken.
There’s always so much work that goes into saying goodbye, including going through stuff. I was the recipient of this Thermo Spoon from 1965 that I’m pretty excited about, although I wish it didn’t come my way this way. It’s a combination thermometer and spoon that’s lasted 50 years!
And look at these old cake decorating paste colors! So many treasures. I think that maybe that’s the point of leaving things behind. So that the one’s feeling sad have little treasures to find to remind them of the ones that passed, since each object has some meaning; in this case, memories of grandpa Dean linked with grandma Doris.

So very sorry for your family’s loss. It’s never easy and even when you know it’s “time”, it still hurts.
I’ve never seen a spoon and thermometer in one..sort of like a spork? So, a spoonometer? And, the colors sure are cool..and probably not as toxic as the ones now? Well, maybe they are, who knows.

Sorry for your loss. My grandpa passed away a few years ago, and I cherish those little things I inherited from him as well. I still miss him, even though I know I will see him again after this life.

That first picture broke my heart. I am so sorry. Those treasures, though? I can totally relate to the fascination of finding those keepsakes. After my grandma died, I got her nutcracker and flour sifter and a few other classic kitchen tools. I love thinking of her every time I open the cupboards.
