When we bought our house this past summer we worked our tail ends off updating, cleaning, remodelling, and planning.

One of the items of concern were the toilets.  The master bath needed a toilet for sure because it was broken and whether the kids bathroom toilet needed to be replaced was under discussion.  Jeff maintained that it definitely needed to be replaced.  I maintained that it definitely didn’t need to be replaced because it was functional and was cute, too.  I won; we didn’t replace the toilet but it was a victory that has haunted me for far too long.

That toilet became the bane of my existence for a period of time that seemed like 27.3 YEARS instead of  204 interminable days.

It clogged.  At least once daily.

To flush it, one had to hold the handle up the WHOLE time it was flushing to properly clear the waste.  Which, as you can imagine with children never happened.

It stunk.  No matter how many times a day I chloroxed that thing it always faintly smelled of urine.

So, this break I got down on my hands and knees and begged Jeff to replace that sucker, knowing I was asking him to take his life in his own hands.

He granted my humble wish {let’s just say industrial here.  What he found under the base of that toilet from the previous owners almost made me hurl} and made me the happiest new toilet owner this side of the Mississippi.

All good stories have a silver lining, and here’s mine:   He wanted to make sure I had a memento of the toilet that caused me uncommon mental discord in case I missed it anytime soon.

Aren’t I lucky?

Don’t forget to mark your calendars starting Monday, January 11th. I’ll be giving away some of my favorite things starting Monday, and ending on Friday. More details here.

Comments

  1. Just the idea of more than one toilet in the house sounds like a dream come true. I’ve decided there will NEVER be an ounce of modesty in my home as long as we only have one bathroom.

  2. Angie, your link isn’t working on my blog. When I click on the jpg it just goes back to my own blog. Ideas?

  3. I have a slight feeling that you won’t be missing it anytime soon. LOL

  4. Ha! You should make it in to a fountain….

    …or not…

  5. put the old toilet in the garden and have some blooms growing out of the pot. someone on my street did it. they had a Clemson orange toilet, complete with large white tiger paw on the lid. they had some nice greens growing out of it. there should be one at every home’s garden, right?
here’s the link to that post, in case you are interested:

    happy WW!

  6. Don’t you hate when you have to admit you were wrong?

And it cracks me up you thought a toilet was CUTE!

  7. I am so sorry I have not been by. I knew you moved but I have not went and click into google reader. I am so sorry. I will be back tomorrow with my WW post. I do have your new button up on my side bar. My Round Robin is Friday if you want to talk about your giveaway or if you have something you want to share.. Love the story..

  8. LOL! Don’t you hate when they are right and you are wrong? 🙂

  9. jejeje!
    funny true story huh!?!
    ☼¨`*•.♥【ツ】♥.•*¨`☼

  10. The toilet doesn’t look that bad from here. I just hope he’s not planning on keeping it in the back yard. He may decide to use it as a planter or something.

So what DID he find under there?

    Justine 😮 )

  11. Oh, heavens! Don’t start me thinking about toilets! AJ went through a phase of getting a kick out of putting toys in the toilet. Once, my husband pulled out 2 Lincoln Logs windows and a few horses. We thought our toilet troubles were over, but after having poop-filled toilets overflow again and again, he took the toilet apart form the bottom and found even more Lincoln Logs pieces. It was disgusting.

  12. I’m hoping and praying that my Little Guy doesn’t discover the ‘toys down the toilet’ phase!

BTW, thanks for the heads up about the code… I’m not sure what was going wrong – I pasted it in as HTML, but then it redirected back to my own blog somehow (?). The code looked accurate though… Regardless, I replaced with a link!

  13. You could put some dirt in the bowl and plant flowers. We had neighbors in Texas that did that when I was a kid. They also had a bathtub with a statue of the Virgin Mary in it halfway buried in their front lawn. Best neighborhood EVER.

  14. We have to flush the whole time too in our spare bathroom!!! Some silly energy efficiency thing. Not when it comes to my energy I tell ya!

So yeah, I am linking up with a delicious dessert. There’s words & a picture so I am qualifying myself 🙂

  15. Wow, my wash tubs would look awesome next to your toilet. lol. Maybe we could line then up and stone them.

  16. hahahahaha! 🙂

  17. First of all, you used the world “interminable.” And I love you for that, as it’s one of my favorite words, when used properly.

Second of all, I love that you made a post about a potty so fun, fresh, and readable. You are my fave.

    And I have missed you.

  18. I’m thinking you won’t be experiencing separation issues anytime soon 🙂

  19. First of all…I am LOVING your new place here! Awesome!

Secondly, I hope you enjoy your new toilet! I want one that has a heated seat.

  20. I’m curious as to what he found underneath..LOL.

  21. LOL…those were the first things we replaced when we bought our house. I always joked that I wanted to turn the old ones into coolers and leave them on the front lawn….give our home a real redneck appeal….Although I really like the commode by the pool look – maybe it will help discourage pool pee-ers 🙂

  22. It’s an oddly artistic picture of the toilet, if you ask me. I DISDAIN cleaning the toilet and any lingering toilet stench, so I can definitely understand why you had to beg to get it replaced. I do admit, though, I was half expecting it to be pink or have Mickey Mouse painted all over it after you said it was cute. 🙂

  23. Sometimes you just need to hear it… You are a beautiful woman, inside & out. You are an exquisite mother, who can make a way out of no way. YOU ARE A GREAT MOM !!! You are doing a fantastic job and are very loved!!!♥ ♥ ♥♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ post this on the blog of moms…Mom’s who always put their kids first and who balance it all. I just did!

  24. I can’t believe you lived with it that long! Hope the new toiley is just as cute! ; )

  25. We had toilet troubles this week too however it involved Thomas the train causing confusion and delay in our pipes…well technically it was annie…or clarabel…I can never tell those girls apart!

BTW your link is not working on mine either…your button will not even show up : ( so sad because it is SUCH a cute new button

  26. Oh let’s see — you could drill a few holes in the bowl and fill it with potting soil, add some feisty flowers? LOL Or not. Too funny 🙂

  27. I am soooooo glad that I finally made it over to your new place! Now I have to update my reader…

That picture of the toilet by the pool should be printed, framed, and hung in the bathroom! too funny!!!

  28. An improperly functioning toilet is such a hassle, I’m glad you got yours taken care of!

  29. Poor thing, it just got disowned! LOL

I was able to fix your code, you just need to update the URL link.

    Happy WW!

  30. Thanks for the discretion when refraining to describe what was under the toilet. Ewe!!! LOL.

  31. We had to get a new toilet this year because of a toy my son flushed down it… resulting in breakage. I LOVE the new one though! It’s awesome!

    Enjoy your new potty!

  32. Absolutely perfect!

  33. Love the new look and I love that you begged for a new toilet. LOL.

    Happy WW!

  34. Thanks for letting me know that you had moved – I’d missed the announcement somehow!

  35. First off, congrats on your blog move. It looks awesomely spectacular!

He may have had the satisfaction of being right, but he still had to do the dirty job! Good luck with your new toilet, may it bring you many years of satisfactory flushing. 🙂

  36. That is a nice commode…LOL I am sure you can do something with it…something decorative… HA HA!

  37. LOL….you wanted to keep the toilet because it was functional and CUTE? Glad 2010 is gonna be a little less troublesome in the toilet department!!

  38. I took pictures of my new toilet when we changed it out! The kids had so much fun with it before it was installed, shoving stuffed animals into it. The old one was good riddance, yours is a work of art!

  39. Your comment about self-cleaning caught my eye… wouldn’t that be nice!

Congrats on the new one! 🙂

  40. I really like your new digs. 🙂 Not sure if I ever will change from Blogger to WordPress, though. I just lost my phone and everybody was telling me to get an iPhone, but I ended up getting the exact same model of Nokia that I lost!

Toilet troubles… I’m usually pretty handy around the house, but toilet troubles, I will not touch. Uh uh.

  41. I have a horrible toilet that looks just like that in my kids’ room! It, too, clogs at the drop of a hat (litterally!!), Lol! I can so relate. I’ve been pushing off replacing it for 7 years!!! Maybe it’s time. 🙂

    BTW, I fixed my link!

  42. Awesome m’dear… simply awesome. As in good for a planter. Good for a tanning spot. good for a good read… enjoy!

I’m up for giveaways… I’ll tell the twitter world.. but you gotta DM me first.. 🙂

I’m so not busy tomorrow.. you around??

  43. haha LOVE it….do I see some flowers in it’s future?
I had a toilet WW as well…a different kind of “toilet” haha

  44. One lucky lady for sure! lol

  45. aren’t you lucky? An outhouse! LOL

Happy WW and enjoy the new potty 🙂

  46. I so feel your pain. When we renovated 3 years ago we put in two brand new toilets that have made my life an utter misery ever since. They WILL NOT come clean – I’ve scrubbed with every product known to man, my cleaner scrubs with every product known to man, and they remain absolutely disgusting. I’ve taken to using that stuff that colors the water blue just to hide it. Vile!

And I don’t know what the rest of my family is doing in the main bathroom but we are on our FOURTH toilet seat in 3 years. Aaaaaahhhhhh!

  47. I’m so glad that you now got a new flushable 🙂 I tell you, everything you just said, it’s like you are describing the cute little toilet in our bathroom that the kids use….makes me go hmm. yuck!

    Happy WW

  48. I have never been down the road of renovation, but can feel your pain nonetheless….glad your husband did the right thing and properly equipped your “facilities” especially with having so many children to leave you surprises on a regular basis….haha.

Also, I added your for today’s WW button but it’s not linking up. When I click on it from my page, it says it can’t find the page. Check out my WW, you’ll enjoy it I think ~ good things from my girls. 😉

  49. Oh, I have so been there before. When we first moved we had the same problem, and we didn’t fix it for a while either plus the sink didn’t work either. It was in our bathroom in the master bedroom. Well, the plumber told us that the pipes were put in wrong and that the water was flowing the wrong way. HUH? Whatever, FIX IT. Too funny for words, but not at the time. By the way your button when I click on it goes to an ERROR 404 – page not found, so I just put your link on my post above it.

  50. glorious – just love it. i’m soooooooooo behind with blogging these holidays. def getting back into it after camping. happy ww angie!

  51. I have seen many people put those in the garden and fill them up with Flowers. LOL

congrats on your new Potty Enjoy

  52. A good toilet is priceless…especially when you really need it!

  53. Maybe you could turn it into a planter. ;o)

  54. The best thing that ever happened to my house was when #2 put a ball in our toilet that required it to be replaced. Everyone in this house fights over using the shiny, new, deeper throated model. Can’t wait until he ruins the other 3 so we can replace them too!

  55. Laughing at Tammy!

  56. My sister found toothbrushes and such when they replaced their toilet. It is amazing what can go down there!!

  57. We really need to replace our toilet, too. Not looking forward to any ‘discoveries’ that might occur from the previous owners! Love that your hubby placed yours next to the pool…heh, heh!

  58. wow, your new home is amazing. congratulations!

  59. that is one good man you got there. there are not a lot of ppl that can say they have a toilet by their pool.

  60. Too funny!

  61. LOL…what an interesting piece of lawn art. 😉

  62. eeeewwwwwww! and eeeewwwww!

  63. SICK! I’m glad you’re starting fresh with a new toilet. Although calling a toilet fresh is really an oxymoron. 🙁

  64. Love that he took a picture for you! That’s awesome!

Love the new site, by the way. It looks great!

  65. LOL. Good for you on the new toilet! We’re building a house right now and going through the process of picking everything out – including toilets! Any tips? We’re looking at dual-flush; I hope that’s not a mistake!

  66. Ah yez … I need to deal with plumbing problems too but I won’t be keeping any of the old toilets as mementos 😉
    Hugs and blessings,

  67. Wow when I was here yesterday there were only a few people. Wow look at today a 100 and something. Wow…

    Happy WW to you..

  68. Out with the old — in with the new…glad that you got a new throne!! I got my earrings in the mail the other day and was pleasantly surprised by their size…the picture of them made them seem much smaller! Thanks again…I am going to save them for my Mom on Mother’s Day! 🙂

  69. A pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, so to speak, hmmm? SO glad the queen has a new throne! ;o)
    Blessings!

  70. Cool picture! You’re keeping it there?

  71. Oh my! I’m definitely with turning it in to a planter! Happy WW!

  72. Hilarious

  73. Well at least your kids flush. Somehow it is too much for mine. Or maybe they’re just so proud of what their body produces that they leave it there for me to find. And so even though we’re now all done with diapers, I still confront their poo every day. What a lucky mom I am!

    • Only some of mine flush. I was hoping with the new toilet it wouldn’t be an issue. But it is. I’ve always thought potty training was overrated. You still have to wipe them for like 2 more years. 🙂

  74. I’ve been away for far too long! You’ve got your own URL and you’re posting pictures of your toilet! I came back just in the knick of time! That is priceless! I love it!

And I cannot count how many times I have to yell across our house for someone to “jiggle the handle!” on our powder room potty!

    • I’m so glad you found me. 🙂 And, that I’m not the only one with toilet issues being a big part of her day. 🙂 That didn’t sound right. But, you know what I mean. 🙂

  75. MommyNamedApril says

ok, the shot of the toilet sitting outside made me laugh out loud!

  76. Is anyone else having trouble with the new code for your button?

    • Yes. I don’t get it. It works for me. Are you in the html tab rather than compose when you put it in? I’m so sorry to bug you with this, but I do want to get to the bottom of it!

  77. I am so, so, so happy for you! A good toliet is priceless! So glad that urine smell is gone. I can’t get rid of it in Kaishon’s bathroom either. It makes me ILL!

  78. Shoot Im not afraid what I would find from previous owners but my own KIDS! Yak! They have their own bathroom that they clean & take care of…I need not say more.
    Love the pic!! 🙂

  79. Oh joy! I have a toilet like that, that I just abhorre. Can’t wait to replace it!

  80. Thank you so much for the heads up on your move! LOVE the new look and all your hilarity. 🙂

Wishing you and your circus a WONDERFUL 2010!

  81. Ewwww…….I am glad you finally got a new toilet!

Happy WW to you! BTW – the new site LOOKS AMAZING!!!!!

  82. lol. too funny. good thing your hubby is super handy, or that could have cost a whole lot more.

  83. Oh girl, I know how you feel. Living in a military house, we’re at the whim of what is existing. It’s one of the many things I hate about on-post housing. BLEH!

  84. Well, it’s a conversation piece if it stays by the pool!

  85. LOL! I’d hang that picture in my bathroom!

  86. I like Pooba’s idea!

  87. ♥ I can’t blame you with the “if it’s not broke, don’t fix it”… I’m glad you finally got it fixed! 🙂

  88. I feel your pain. We just recovered from a water pipe that froze due to cold temps. Two days of unflushed toilets is not pretty. Congrats on your new one.

  89. You weren’t kidding – it really is Potty Humor Week for us – haha!!!

  90. You are lucky! That pic is hilarious!

  91. yay for a new toilet! =) isn’t it funny the things we get so excited over, oh I want to replace a couple of ours too!

  92. That picture is priceless! You know, some people turn toilets into planters…

Not that you should, but you could!

  93. Oh my…I have been so busy potty trainning that I am just now getting to your new site. Like it!! Love the picture of the potty by the pool..I think I should be there right now with Ava..that way if she has an “accident” and misses the potty, it will be outside and a MUCH easier clean-up!!

  94. I posted my newest post without have been to your fabulous redesigned site. I will surely change everything, happily. It looks amazing by the way. Worth every penny (or dollar LOL) I am sure!!

The holidays thru my for a loop. I didn’t post or follow for weeks 🙁 It feels good to be back.

  95. Maybe that is what is wrong with our basement toilet……………………
I like your new home on the web very nice!
Enjoy a little sunshine for me as it is -20 out this morning (and that’s before wind chill!)
