{The Tale in Which this Mama saw Red, Part II}

It really is a miracle they are alive; and by alive, I mean, literally, and {still} alive, literally.

They defied the odds {we were given only a 50% survival rate} in utero, but it doesn’t stop there.

They push the limits almost every day, and some days even push far past the limits whereby it’s easy to stay sane.

The other day I found this:

You are looking at  the back side of my leather chaise lounge.  The side that is almost up against the wall.  The side that in order to get punctured by nail clippers by a 4 year old boy who would have to work pretty hard at getting back there with a sharp object.  And know that it’s the wrong thing to do.  And know better.

See what I mean?

I constantly have to remind myself that there are two of them so the trouble they get into is two fold.  And, it’s not always BOTH of them that are getting into trouble.  For instance, John is the one that ruined the backside of my chair, while Jacob is the one that painted all over my True Religion jeans.

I give myself these pep talks, yet I swear to you, if they ruin one more expensive item of mine I’m going to flip.

I have a feeling that it’ll be a miracle if I’m still sane by the time they are 18.

And that’s being optimistic.

  1. I don’t have much to say (as I snort a little), except A) you’re RAD and B) man, those boys are adorable and C) it’s probably a good thing on this fine day that they are.

    And now I’m going to go back to laughing (snorting) WITH you, not AT you…

  5. Aww, they’re SOOO cute. Wow, that’s definitely a predetermined action plan to actually pierce the chaise lounge despite its position. Good luck with them hon! 🙂

  6. I hate to say it, but this is pretty typical kid stuff. My son will be SO good for a long time, but then every once in a while, he will just do something totally off the wall like this. I think the temptation just hits them and they just can’t resist it. It’s like when we see a really fabulous purse or a pair of shoes that we know we shouldn’t buy, but it’s just sitting there calling you…

    On the other hand, where did you get that fabulous chaise? I’ve been looking for one like that for about twenty years. A friend of mine in college had one, but it was wide enough for two and covered in soft brown plush. It was literally the MOST comfortable thing I’d ever sat in and I’ve always wanted to find one just like it.

  13. I decided that owning nice things just is not in the cards for me at this point in my life. “This point in my life” includes the entire last 16 years and another 14 to go. By that time, I figure there will be grandchildren to trash my things. I will go to my grave with broken tables and couches and unpainted walls. sigh….
