Sometimes Jeff and I Get Bored Too….

We don’t get a ton of rain here in Southern California, so when it rains for a full week without let up, it’s a BIG deal.  It rained like that this past winter and the twins literally went wild.  They didn’t know what to do with themselves being cooped up for a week and they started getting into all sorts of trouble.

  • Cutting each other’s hair.
  • Painting on my brand new jeans.
  • Getting into stuff they knew was off-limits….

You get the picture.  They didn’t get into as much trouble (as a consequence) as they normally would have because I understood.  I was going stir crazy too.  I know that a week in-doors doesn’t seem like much to many of you, but it was a big deal to us since we spend most of our days outside year round.

Sometimes, whether it’s raining out or not, Jeff and I get bored too.  And I get him to do juvenile things to make me laugh.  Like giving the boys haircuts.  Bowl cuts, mullets, skater dos, you name it.  Yesterday Jeff wielded the clippers and scissors and provided me with a fiesta of fun.

We told him what a cool hair cut he had.  Like, super cool.  The kid was so excited with his new do.  Seriously.  BEAMING.  The best part?  His brother/twin wanted his hair cut the exactly the same way.   I tried to get Jeff to take him out in public like this.  Just once.  I used all of my persuasive powers, but he refused.

We had our laughs, and now he looks like this:

All ready for summer.

  2. Such fun! You can tell it was a good time for all involved!

Back in our newlywed days my husband had me cut his hair and I used to live in fear that the clippers would die on us mid-cut and he would have to go out in public that way.

  3. This is hysterically cute! I wish I could have heard the video, but my speakers conked out a while back. Isn’t it amazing how something as simple as a haircut can make your little boy look so suddenly grown-up?!

So cute!! I wish I were that brave but my girls would end up looking like a circus side-show:-)

  6. This was a fun post – I have tried cutting the kids hair ONCE – it was awful – they need someone who knows how to blend…and I can’t do that! But I would have never thought to give my kids a mullet just for a laugh! Have a great weekend!

  7. Hilarious – now I can’t wait until I have kids of my own to amuse myself my cutting their hair!

  8. Hahahaha!!! Will you guys come over and do that to Kainoa?? Hilariously awesome! The mullet is definitely the winner!

The answer is NO. No, it does not.

    No biggie right?
I should do it next time we cut Masaru’s hair.

  11. That kid could make even the nastiest mullet look freaking adorable!!

  12. I was worried there for a minute with like the 2nd or 3rd pic, but it turned out to be a great summer cut. We have WAY too many rainy shut in days here. Ahhh!

  14. He sure is handsome…and a good sport, too. When I cut my hubby’s hair, I usually go through a couple funny transitions, too.

    Love the mullet. Classic.
They have gorgeous hair btw. The perfect strawberry blond…. sigh…
I’d kill for my girls to have that color… instead of Chris’ ‘mousy brown’. Ugh.

I was just cutting hubby’s hair last night and threatened to do some super “cool” cut and then leave it, but I decided to be nice and finish it up.

  21. Actually, this is a really cool idea! Next time we shave my son’s head, we’ll have to do this and take all kinds of pictures….I want to give him a mullet 😉

  22. Those are kind of cute! My husband cuts my son’s hair and is always doing something wacky with it before he shaves it off. He’s a bit too young yet to think it’s funny himself, but my husband gets a good laugh out of it.

I have twin boys too and every time their hair grows my husband insists he cuts it. It’s so much fun! My boys are 18 month old and they get into trouble all the time when they are bored and boy do they get bored easily!!

  34. You guys are hilarious! I tried to give my little guy a haircut tonight, and it might end the same way yours did (without all the funny stuff in between)…

  35. Brooke Dodd says

Your boys are so cute. We can’t thank you enough for coming to the party. Hope to see you at the next party on Sat.

  36. Haircuts are fun!! I do need to learn more about painting on jeans…this could be more productive then permanent marker on the bed, walls, and kitchen table. Summers are a drag here….extremely way to HOT! Enjoy and have fun this summer! btw nice to meet you at BBC !!

  39. All of The Dudes need summer cuts. We usually only shave #1 though because his hair looks all cooky when it grows out anyway. #2 goes with a sensible afro and #3 has never had a haircut and, if I have anything to say about it, never will. Maybe just a trim. His split ends are starting to look a bit ridiculous!

  40. ROFLMAO. You guys are a riot! Brave too, I wouldn’t dare come near my kids with a pair of scissors. I’d even out a bit here, and a bit there, and next thing you know they’d be bald as a ping pong ball!

  41. How funny… I try to convince Lane do leave his hair weird when I cut it but he never will. As soon as it even gets a little long he says, “Mom I’m starting to look like a hippie. I need a haircut!” Cracks me up!
