Instructions for Making Hearts

  • Cut (2) 12X12″ pieces of scrapbooking paper into 1″ strips. Note: each piece of paper will make two hearts. We used 3 pieces of paper to make 6 hearts.
  • Cut six of each size: 12″, 10″, and 8″ strips. Set aside the six 4″ strips that came from the 8″ cutting. This sounds confusing, but basically, for each piece of paper you’ll have 3 sets of strips. A 12″ set, a 10″ set, a 8″ set and then the 4″ left over strips.
  • Use the glue stick to glue two of the 4″ strips together. This will be the tab that the heart will hang from at the top.
  • Take two piles of the 12″, 10″, 8″ strips and put them face to face; the order is important. Start with the tab in the middle and pancake them in this order going outwards from the tab: 12″, 10″, 8″. Staple the strips at the bottom.
  • Fold the top of the strips over and pinch to form a heart and staple at the bottom.
  • Now that your 3 hearts are made, staple them together to form your shamrock.  Snip off the tabs of the side hearts.

  • Trace and cut your pendant pieces.  I used an old pendant piece as a template. If you don’t have one at home, you can find one in any shape on line to download for free to use.

Assemble the Banner

I punched holes in the top corners of my pendant pieces. I then threaded them through the ribbon to assemble the banner. It was really simple and turned out so well!

  1. You know what… I have all the stuff to make this! Of course we’ll be gone over St. Patricks Day… maybe we’ll make an Easter version of it! Of just spring in general then we can leave it up a lot longer.

  2. Love this shamrock! Simple!
