Scrap Fabric Bracelets {how to}

How to make Scrap Fabric Bracelets is not only a fun craft, it’s inexpensive and easy.  It’s a great boredom buster, a perfect party craft, and a fabulous craft to make for gift giving.   My daughter and I recently made scrap fabric bracelets while we had some down time, and I’m hooked.  I can’t think of an easier way to use up fabric scraps while producing something fun and wearable at the same time.  You can make these bracelets solo with the help of a little tape, or have someone help you by holding the end which allows for a little bonding time!  {{smiling}}  So, grab some fabric scraps and get braiding.  You’ll love the bracelets you can create in just minutes!

Directions for Making SCRAP FABRIC BRACELETS:

Step 1:  Cut strips of fabric.  We used strips of fabric that were about 2″ wide by 18″ long.  Here’s the thing though.  The width of the fabric determines how thick your  bracelet is.  So, you might want to play around with the width of your fabric.  You probably won’t need more than 18″-24″ for the length, though.

Step 2:  Cut little snips in fabric and then tear into strips.  These will be the pieces that you braid together.

Step 3:  Tape strips into solid surface like counter. If someone is helping you, then have them hold the ends of the  three pieces of fabric for you.

Step 4:  Braid the fabric pieces together.

Step 5:  To finish off the bracelet, measure the braid on wrist and tie the two ends together.  Make sure you leave enough room to slide on and off wrist.  The fabric will have some “give” so you don’t need to leave too loose.  Cut off excess material.

Tip:  Braid tightly for a smaller weave, loosely for a thicker, looser looking braid.

Variation:  If you know how to braid a 4 or 5 strand braid, it would look fabulous.  Here’s How to Make a 4-Strand Braid with hair, but the same concept can be applied to the fabric strips.

  1. I think I just developed a major girl crush on you! Do you know how much scrap fabric I have? Maybe if I show The Girl Child these, it will damper the stinkin’ rainbow loom craze!

  2. these are adorable….such a easy craft for camping too.

    • I never buy anything that I’m not in total love with I can get a llitte crazy with accessories but I keep my clothes basic and classic I get all kinds of comments, either people will love or hate it My boyfriend always tells me I look good, and he’s not even looking. So his opinion is biased. If I’m ever on the fence about a fit, I always pull a lovely lady from the store who works there or a friendly soul who’s in the dressing area at the time

    • I would say yes & no. When I’m shopping with frnieds then of course I want their opinion before I buy something. But in the end I dress for myself and have my own style. People usually ask me for fashion advice so I think I’m doing pretty good when it comes to my outfits haha![fashionablyfly.blogspot.com]

  3. Now I know what to do with all the scrap material that I have left! I’m sure that my youngest daughter would love making these and sharing them with friends.

  4. Great idea! I have a ton of scrap fabric and a 12 year old daughter to go with it! Sounds like a rainy afternoon project to me. Thanks!

  5. What a fun idea! Thanks for sharing 🙂

  6. Like these bracelets a lot. Now let me see, if I only had some scrap fabric. By golly, I think I got it! I could use a piece of an old Tee Shirt or an old curtain? Yes, that might do. I just may have something around the house that I can use to make these bracelets! 🙂

    Thank you for sharing this.
