This Mother’s Day will mark 28 Mother’s Days that I have been forced to acknowledge/celebrate without my mom.
28 years she’s been gone. It seems like an eternity. I’ve forgotten so many things about her over the years. Like how she smelled or exactly how her hands looked as she performed motherly tasks for me constantly. I don’t particularly remember the shade of her hair, or what her eyes looked like. I don’t even remember her smile, really, without the aid of photos. I do remember how she made me feel though, and that’s something that time can never take away from me. It’s that feeling of love that will never fade, no matter how much time slips by.
I’m grateful for those feelings, and for photos that remind me of the shape of her body or the shade of her hair. And, I’m thankful for home videos that show me my mom in action. Moving, breathing, talking, walking, laughing, crying, reading, smiling.
This Mother’s Day I plan on showing my children my mother. In action. I’ll be holding my children extra close, thankful that I’ve had the time with my children that I have, looking forward to so much more.
I’m thankful for my mother.
Just thankful.
I really was blessed to have such a wonderful one. I wish a lot of things, but I really wish my children could have known her. Luckily with the aid of a little technology, they’ll be able to see her in a way they never have before, and I’ll get to enjoy the memories with them.
That’s a whole lot to be grateful for!

Oh, it sounds like she was wonderful. It’s hard to lose a parent. I lost my dad 6 years ago and it’s been rough.

Thats amazing, I have never heard your Mom’s voice. I am sorry Mothers Day brings a day that can never have a fight with Jeff about who’s Mom gets to have the day. I love you so very much. Thanks for always being such a good example and staying close to our Heavenly Father. You have became such an amazing Mom and such a role model to others, esp me. Have a great Mother’s Day!

This is so special! I LOVED seeing that video of your Mom. It’s nice to have something like that to share with your kids. And that part you talked about not remembering specifics…that’s the one thing that really makes me sad. I feel the same way about my Dad. I remember really really adoring him…but sometimes I can’t remember exactly why or what he did specifically that made me feel so special. I hate that.

I’m so sorry that you’ve had to spend so much time away from her. I’m sure the perspective you have will pass onto your children not to take anyone or any moment with your loved ones for granted. I have to say from the pics I’ve seen of you, you look just like her. Thank God for the videos and pictures. It’s times like these I’m reminded to not be prideful towards my mother (even though she can be so stubborn!)
