He’s Killing Me

I need a lock for my laundry room.
Is it normal to have a 2 year old that does his own laundry? Because mine does, and it’s freaking me out.

Every few days for a couple of weeks I’d notice that my washing machine was running. And I didn’t start it. I figured that one of the twins had started it, but I thought it was just one of them messing with the buttons.

Then I started noticing that someone was taking the clothes out of the dryer, throwing them on the floor and transferring the clean clothes from the washer into the dryer. I know I should have been thrilled, but I don’t like anyone mixing things up.

Yesterday I had dirty clothes in the washer but it hadn’t been started. I came in later and all of the dirty clothes were in the dryer. Ugh.

And then the light went on. My selective little laundry someone is Spiderman. Yes, Spiderman. And he’s so concerned with the laundry because he only has 2 sets of Spiderman pajamas and slippers and since that’s all he’ll wear, it’s important that one set is clean at all times.

Today Spiderman spilled water on his Spiderman top and promptly put it into the dryer and started it.

I’m alarmed. I’m pretty sure this isn’t normal. I have a 2 year old child that calls himself Spiderman, refuses to wear anything except his Spiderman clothing, cuts his food with a saw, AND does his own laundry. It just doesn’t seem right.

How cute is he? I love the pics of him cutting his food with that saw! Crafty little sucker! I’d try teaching him how to actually do the laundry right… it’s worth a shot, right? This could end up working out beautifully for you!

  2. fantastic!! time to teach him how to do it right…think of all the hours you will get back in your life!

    SUUHWEET!

  3. Casey's trio says

He is dedicated, ya gotta give him that much! Now just teach him how to properly use the washer and dryer and you can scratch one chore off your list!

  4. I agree, teach him to do it right! All great leaders find people’s talents and delegate.

Maybe he’ll like toilets too. El learned toilets early because she loved swishing the brush around the bowl. I taught her to be thorough and to be sure to wash her hands afterward. She is the best bathroom cleaner in the house, and most of the time she sings because she really does enjoy it.

  5. Simply AnonyMom says

How very sweet of him, helping with the laundry and all. I bet it can be a freak out moment thinking your machines are revolting against you, lol.

Hopefully he will continue to love laundry and learn to do it in the correct manner.

  6. kee hee hee. I think it’s adorable! Get him his own little apt sized washer and dryer!
He is precious. What in the world is he going to be like in 5 or 6 years?
    I can’t wait.

  7. Just make sure he knows about all the other wonderful things Spiderman does around the house. Gotta love that kid!

  8. Awww, I think it is cute!!!

Just think of the stories you can tell when he is older πŸ™‚

  9. mommaof4wife2r says

well, i guess he’s just a super duper mommy’s helper. my kids like to mop, but i have to redo it…i would def take the help. what a good boy!

  10. First of all, he is adorable and I totally want to eat him up. Second, fantastic!! You should totally put him to work! Teach him how to do it and then show him what laundry he can do. I think this is great news! Quite amazing!

  11. What a smart little guy (I mean, Spiderman)! He can come do my laundry anytime he wants.

  12. Blog Stalker says

Spiderman Rawks! Definitely just show him the right way to do it.

I practically have to threaten death to get “older” kids to get theirs done. Definitely hone that diamond in the rough!

    Have a great day!

  13. Jonny's Mommy says

OK. I need your 2-year old to come teach my 2-year old and… well, me too. That’s awesome. Your kid is amazing. My kid is starting to like Spiderman a lot but not to the point of washing his own clothes.

  14. the schirano triplets says

hahaha! i love that he does the laundry to get his stuff clean. so cute! and i think it is pretty normal for a 2 year old to think he is spiderman…although the laundry thing? not so sure πŸ™‚

  15. laughing hard. They come how they come, eh??
    Thanks for making me laugh

  16. Kacey Randolph says

The world is a safer place with this Spiderman in the world – and apparently really clean too! Too cute! :o)

  17. Wow – he’s better than my husband. Want to send him over here? I could use his help!

  18. That’s hilarious. I wish I could get my kids to do laundry. Slightly alarming but hilarious.

Cutting food with a straw? That can’t work too well!

This was just such a funny post. Thanks for the morning smiles!

  19. That is too funny!

  20. Wow that’s one determined kid.
    So how was the wedding?

  21. That’s so funny! What little smarty you’ve got there!

  22. Is he for hire? Because I really need a laundry doing super hero around here. Really.

  23. Munchkins and Music says

    LOL. He sounds awesome!

  24. Are you back in town??? How was the wedding?

I love the Spiderman thing — I had one of those, and it lasted for almost 2 years. Then it was a Denver Broncos football uniform and then Harry Potter. Good luck!! I will give you all my Spiderman stuff.

  25. Will he also do the other children’s laundry? You should be jumping for joy if he will. Most have no idea how to do this till they leave for collage.

  26. This is so cute. He’s totally normal… I don’t think you are seriously worried though. This was a great post!

  27. That’s hilarious! I can related. My 10 year old (who is old enough to know better – you’d think!) has a must-have pair of PJ’s too.

Last week, he took them out of the washer and put them straight on, still wringing wet. Fortunately, I caught him before he went to bed or he would have woken up with pneumonia! Our basement is COLD – year round. He still argued with me – “Mom, they’ll dry, they’re just a little bit damp…”

  28. I think that you need to go and buy some more Spiderman clothes.

  29. WHAT??? Things like that aren’t normal? Well, crap.

But then, my motto is, “If my kids don’t grow up and need some serious therapy, then I have not done my job properly!”

I may not be the best person to take advice from. Like, ever.

  30. Could he please come teach my two year old so I can experience this bliss?
That is one unique little guy you have on your hands! So cute!

  31. That is AWESOME!! Talk about a personality!

  32. The Shillingburg's says

I love how quirky kids can be!! My son sniffs his blankets.

  33. I love it. My daughter is similar in that she wear a cheerleader outfit any chance she can. I love b/c I know that there will come a day when they don’t want to be superheros or princess anymore.

  34. WheresMyAngels says

How fun!! I just hope he doesn’t have any pets he wants to wash!

  35. I am howling out loud right now. That is one special boy! Super hero and he does laundry….I’d keep him!

  36. I laughed out loud on that one…how adorable and how funny!

On a related Spiderman story, when my brother Paul was little, he was obsessed with Spiderman. When my youngest brother was born, my parents named him Peter, and boy you could not believe how mad Paul was at that. HE wanted to be called Peter because of Peter Parker. We still laugh about it to this day.

  37. Mark and Kiss says

Ha, ha, ha!!! That is so funny! You have one smart little boy on your hands.

I remember when Anson was two and sister Almeida gave him a spiderman costume, he wore it ALL the time too, even through the airport once. Oh, my. I love little boys!

  38. How funny! Now if only he could come over and teach my 9 year old to do laundry.

  39. What a cutie! πŸ˜€

I have an award for you at my blog!

  40. That is SO funny. What a cutie!

I’m glad my boy will wear more than two pairs of clothing… I would never be able to keep them clean!

  41. Yes, my name is Arizona says

That’s so funny! If he keeps his love of laundry into adulthood he’ll make a great husband! lol!

  42. Gunnisac Sandersons says

What!!!! That is too cute, how can he reach? You must have front load machines. That cracks me up. Way to go Spiderman.

  43. OK, you need to send this one to Reader’s Digest and get some money for it! Hysterical

  44. Angie,
This seriously had me cracking up. That is absolutely the cutest thing in the world!

  45. Are You Serious! says

    β™₯ That cracks me up!

  46. that girl (shelly) says

oh, you need to take this ball and RUN with it, because there is nothing better than a laundry butler!

  47. Has he found the soap yet?? LOL

I find I get freaked out every time I hear the toilet flush. I never know what my 2 year old is putting in there before pushing that handle!!

  48. HAHA!

Does he want to give my husband lessons?!

  49. that is the funniest thing I have read all day..

    your boy is to cute..

    Becky

  50. That is so hilarious!!! Maybe now you can teach him how to seperate lights and darks:)..

  51. It’s so cute that he has to have a clean Spidey outfit.
Most kids wouldn’t even care if it was dirty let alone wash there own clothes.
    I think he’s definitely a keeper!!!

  52. Killing you with cuteness, oh, that is so good!

  53. Jamie @ Purposeful Pursuit says

Now that is something else…cracks me up!

  54. Jyl @ MommyGossip says

He has super powers, Angie! Don’t question it. And you never know when they could come in very useful–as if doing your own laundry at 2 isn’t useful :).

  55. That is too funny. If my son could reach the washer I am sure he would do this too. For now he just closes the door to the dryer.

Be thrilled, hopefully his interest in laundry will last until adulthood – one less chore for you!

  56. Ahhh boys!!!! They never cease to amaze me!

  57. He is TOO cute! His daily doings just keep me laughing! Can Spiderman spin his way to my house…I could use a little help!

  58. Threeundertwo says

If you look up “superhero” in the dictionary, the definition reads: man who does his own laundry.

I say show him how to measure the soap and enjoy!

  59. I *think* one of my girls may be a match for him…..

  60. Tiaras & Tantrums says

I think it is the age – my son did this for a long time – we were not allowed to call him by his name – he would freak out! He has been 2 seperate super heros. But he never did his own laundry! That is super funny!

  61. Be very, very glad for this. All 4 of my sons learned to do their own laundry when they were little. Now, even to this day, everyone (including hubby) in our house does their own laundry, thank goodness!!!!

  62. Okay this little man of your cracks me up, and the way you write your posts just fab! Enjoy your spiderman while he’s still in laundry mode. πŸ™‚

  63. Live.Love.Eat says

Wow, I could see I’m not the only one who was amused by this. My chuckle started building right away and by the time I was at your last paragraph it escalated to a LOL. That is quite amazing!!!!!!!!!

  64. Kim Heinecke says

    Is he for hire?

  65. that is so adorable – you need to get him on video in action. I’d show him how to sort the colors and be on my way! Too cute. Way to go spiderman!

  66. Send him my way.. I could use some help with the laundry.

    TOOO cute!!

  67. Love it! Do you hire out? I could use ANY type of laundry help around here!

  68. If only you could harness spiderman’s power for good!

Seriously I think he might just be the cutest kid I have ever seen (apart from my own of course!)

  69. Can I buy him? Name your price πŸ™‚

  70. This post is funny. What a character you have! A child that has to do things his way and different than others; not a bad thing at all! And he does laundry??? What a fun kid!

  71. Carrie and Troy Keiser says

Amazing! So what you have to do is not leave unwashed laundry in the washer!
How cute is that, that he is willing to do the laundry to insure clean Spidey outfits?! πŸ™‚

  72. david mcmahon says

    He’s a genius.

    Seriously

  73. I love everything about this boy! What a great post to remember all these quirky things.

All too soon it he will be grown up.

  74. Oh and the laundry had me rolling. I mean how on earth does he know how to do that? That is the funniest thing I have heard in a LONG time!

  75. he is soooooo cool.
    much more than spiderman.

  76. I popped over from Authorblog to read your ‘post of the day’.

Send him over to me he can do my laundry! πŸ™‚
