Helpful Hints…..

I wish I had know about sooner:

1. Store your opened chunks of cheese in aluminum foil. It will stay fresh much longer and not mold!
2. Peppers with 3 bumps on the bottom are sweeter and better for eating. Peppers with 4 bumps on the bottom are firmer and better for cooking.
3. Add a teaspoon of water when frying ground beef. It will help pull the grease away from the meat while cooking.
4. To really make scrambled eggs or omelets rich add a couple of spoonfuls of sour cream, cream cheese, or heavy cream in and then beat them up.
5. Expanding Frosting. When you buy a container of cake frosting from the store, whip it with your mixer for a few minutes. You can double it in size. You get to frost more cake/cupcakes with the same amount. You also eat less sugar and calories per serving
6. Reheating refrigerated bread. To warm biscuits, pancakes, or muffins that were refrigerated, place them in a microwave with a cup of water. The increased moisture will keep the food moist and help it reheat faster.
7. No More Mosquitoes. Place a dryer sheet in your pocket. It will keep the mosquitoes away.

When we went to mother/daughter campout weekend we put the dryer sheets in our pockets and didn’t have any trouble with those nasty bugs!

My mother-in-law does the cheese and foil thing but I just thought it was for the lack of zippy bags! 🙂 Thanks for the tips they’re great…

The only tip I had heard about was the dryer sheet (haven’t tried it yet) – but the other tips were fascinating – WOW! I loved hearing these – thanks – Kellan (especially the frosting one – who’d have thunk it).

Aluminum foil? Really? What a great tip. I’ll definitely try the dryer sheet thing to, because I am seriously the world’s most effective mosquito magnet. If there is one mosquito in the entire hemisphere it finds me!

Here’s some I use a lot: static hair, rub a dryer sheet through it. Oily roots? baby powder. Oily spots on dark clothes? Ring around the collar? 409 kitchen cleaner.

The dryer sheet does work! It doesn’t help with black flies though, no see’ums, whatever they are called. It smells much better than bug spray too!!

These are too cool, but I have to wonder about the dryer sheets one. Texas mosquitos get so big they could carry a small child away — I wonder if there are enough dryer sheets in the world to take care of a South Texas Skeeter!

Don’t want to cry while cutting an onion. Put it in the freezer for 5 min. And try not to cut the root end if only using 1/2 the onion. That is the end that makes you cry.

I also like to keep a dryer sheet in the pocket of my suitcase. It keeps everything smelling like it just came out of the dryer and not musty like it has been on the airplane.

    Love the other tips!

Hey Angie – Yes, my twins are also monoamnionic twins and when they were born they found that they had tied a perfect double knot in their cords and the doctor even said, “When these girls get to be 18, you need to take them to Vegas, because these are lucky babies.” They had also torn one of the cords away from the placenta and it was hanging on by only blood vessels. They were taken by C-section at 36 weeks and if he hadn’t decided to take them that day, I probably would have lost them both!! I didn’t even know they were identical twins – let alone monoamnionic twins until they were born. They were 5 lbs. 1 oz and the other 4 lbs. 12 oz. at birth and only staying in ICU for 1 day and 2 days and we all went home after 5 days. They are a blessing and we even have pictures of that knot – I plan to post that story on their birthdays in April. Come back and tell me more about your twins. See you soon. Kellan
