Fishing is SO NOT for the squeamish.

When I was little fishing meant reeling in a fish and then running off to play or do whatever else it was I was doing when my dad or grandpa caught me a fish and then called me over when it was my turn to do the fun part.

I was never around for the whole hook and bait process, for the casting, or for the hook extraction from the fish once it was caught. And slowly murdered, I might add.  🙂

This time I paid attention, and I have to tell you. I’m not a fan.

All it took was seeing the fish flop around and the hook being taken out.

Thank goodness my dad does for my kids what he did for me!

I did get some good pictures though…………..and the smile on Garrett’s face when he reeled the rainbow trout in was priceless.

Don’t bother asking how the fish tasted. There was NO way I was going to prepare it for consumption after seeing it slowly die!

I’m playing along with PSF and Give Me Your Best Shot.

  1. so true. mr scrappy is a keen fisherman from way back – all that pulling and hooking hooks out of fish mouths – errrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. still, i love fresh fish to eat!!!

  2. I’m not a fan either. If I really thought about the death of all that I ate, I’d be a vegetarian…..which, in all honesty, I’m not much of a meat eater but I love fish and shellfish…especially here in Hawaii….how can I resist?

  3. oooh i love the pics of fish with the rounded and burned edges. haven’t gone in years and when i did, i was always afraid of eating the fish because of possible contaminants. but salmon and cream cheese sounds esp tasty this morning.

  4. I used to go fishing with my dad all the time as a kid! I would love to take my own kids fishing, but my husband will definitely have to come. I don’t do the hook and bait process either!

  5. I was never interested in fishing but my youngest really wants to go. Well, that’s what grandpas are for:-)

  6. Ah, you big wuss. 🙂 (said in a perfectly loving, friendly way)

I’ve always fished since I was little. Maybe that is why it doesn’t bother me. I totally would have eaten it. That’s the best part.

  7. I know just what you are saying Angie! I can’t really do it either. It totally and completely freaks me out!

  8. I am just there for the tranquility.

  9. I just love eating fish so I can deal with the prepping/gutting/cooking of the fish. But if the bait involves worms??? NO. THANK YOU.

  10. my kids LOVE to fish too – but daddy is always the baiter and hooker as well – my kids would go nuts over those huge fish though! We have tiny (tiny) fish in our pond

  11. wimp. 😉

  12. I totally agree with you, fishing is not for the faint of heart.

  13. LOL. Me neither. The last time we went camping my dad asked if the girls wanted to go with him to clean the fish. Thank goodness I was in earshot to hear what he had in mind and was able to stop them before he traumatized them beyond. Haha

  14. I’m so glad your kids had this experience. I’m not one for fishing either. The guts, the scales, the slim. No thank you. But I’ll gladly sit on the boat and soak up the sun.

  15. I have never been fishing but just imagine it would be so very boring. But with your own children I can see how witnessing their excitement and joy could be fun. Lovely photos.

  16. Blech. Yeah, we used to do catch and release, but it still makes me squirm!

  17. I think I would have been around for the scenery….not the fish suffocation. It’s too much.

  18. I don’t mind sticking a worm on a hook, but I don’t like taking the fish off! Yuck!

  19. I LOVE the whole ‘taking the kids fishing thing’ that Hubs does. The going to the “worm store”, the practicing of the casting, the hooking of worms, the pride swelling from the kids as they tell me about the fish they caught… while I was somewhere FAR away from the slimy fish and nasty worms.

  20. Look at that! The old blog! I’m not Cristin anymore….D’OH!!

  21. oh man! Yeah, can’t say I have ever wanted to fish! Besides all the yuckyness involved I HATE the taste of fish, the smell, pretty much everything about it. Those are some great photo’s. i miss your dad.

  22. Haha. Too funny. And Agreed!!

P.S. Hubs hasto do all the cleaning and filleting too.

  23. Yeah I don’t do the fishing thing either.
That first photo is simply beautiful! You should have made it large and you should frame it!

  24. Beautiful scenery and priceless memories….

(hey, your Dad is looking great! Healthy and happy…. 🙂

  25. I love all your pictures – they all seem to have the same kind of light to them that is amazing. Do you edit them? Perform magic tricks? or is it your camera?

I am thinking of taking my kids camping this fall and would love to be able to take them fishing but I am not a fan of the hook or murder either – and cleaning them…gag.

Wish Hubby was more of a man’s man – but I am thinking it’s going to be more like hotdogs and hamburgers than fresh fish. 🙂

  26. Great photos… I love to fish! 🙂
