DIY Pom Pom Garland

Materials Needed

Supplies

  • White Yarn
  • Red Yarn
  • Twine
  • Scissors

Instructions for Making Pom Poms

Pom Pom Directions

  • Depending on the size or diameter that you want your pom pom depends on how many fingers you use.  I used four fingers and wrapped the yarn around them 30 times. (If you want a fuller pom pom then wrap more.)  When done cut the yarn. Tip: If you use a thicker yarn you won’t have to use as much.
  • Cut a piece of yarn about 6 inches long.
  • Carefully remove the yarn from your hand and place over the 6 inch piece of yarn.  Tightly tie the 6″ piece of yarn around the yarn wrapped around your hand.
  • Snip all of the loops and any excessively long strands.

Pom Pom

  • Voila, any easy peasy pom pom.

Assemble the Garland

I assembled the banner by threading baker’s twine through each pom pom.  No gluing is necessary.

About AWAY & BACK

Ab01-sm-1024x682

The movie stars Jason Lee and Minka Kelly, and is directed by Jeff Bleckner, director of Hallmark Hall of Fame fan favorites like Remember Sunday (2013) and Loving Leah (2009).  When a family of swans makes their home on the Peterson farm, it’s love at first sight for 10-year-old daughter Frankie (Maggie Elizabeth Jones). But along comes no-nonsense ornithologist Ginny Newsom (Minka Kelly), who rushes in to “save” the majestic birds. For Frankie’s dad Jack (Jason Lee), it’s dislike at first sight when he encounters pushy, know-it-all Ginny. Frankie and her brothers are anything butneutral observers as they watch the initial hostility between their widowed father and the strong-willed Ginny transform into something else……. Following the premiere, DVD sales of the movie will be available at hallmarkhalloffame.com!

California Restaurant Month is THIS month, the perfect time to treat yourself to dinner out, don’t you think?  {{smiling}}  California has fresh seasonal offerings that you definitely don’t want to miss.  Just about anywhere you go throughout the state you can find gourmet or casual menus and innovative chefs with mouth watering dishes.  Plus, the weather is so darn spectacular most of the time, you might even be able to enjoy your meal outside.

California Restaurant Month

Once you’ve entered to win an OpenTable gift card, check out the Life in California website (California Restaurant Month).  Watch and learn from some of California’s top chefs, get the inside scoop on local hot spots for the best cuisine, and more!

Just so you know, EVERY January is designated as California Restaurant Month, but you can use this site for details for finding celebrity chef events, wine-pairing specials, gourmet prix-fixe dinners, exclusive seasonal offerings and an interactive map of participating regions.  You can even print out a list if you like to keep it handy.  Just because January is a great time to splurge, savor and save, that doesn’t mean you can’t year round!

My favorite part, you can find things to do AROUND your dining throughout the state (yep, the whole state), not just the metropolitan areas.  The site has the state broken down into regions with things to do, places to see, travel tools and it even has discounts on family fun so if you are like me, you can pick a fun restaurant and THEN plan your entertainment.  Perfect.  {{huge smile}}

Don’t miss out.

Just in time for Valentine’s Day, Juicy Fruit launched a new Juicy Fruit® gum with Starburst® flavors, bringing two fun brands together with a splash!  If you are like me and looking for a way to ditch the candy, the Strawberry & Cherry Starburst® flavors are the perfect solution!  They have been kid tested and mother approved in these parts!   Available in Single-packs (15 sticks) and also Multi-packs (3 single packs) your kiddos (and you) can give out ‘A Sweet Piece of Fun’ this Valentine’s Day!

starburst gum

Save Now at Target!   Head on over to your local Target to get your hands on these fun new flavors.  I love that they are sugar free and are packed with flavor.  While you are at Target you just might find some fun items to fill with the gum, too.  I think that a glitter jar is just begging to be filled with Starburst gum, don’t you?  I have other ideas, too…..

starburst gum

Ways to Give Juicy Fruit® gum with Starburst® flavors:

  • with a printable tag
  • in a jar
  • in a sparkly mini pail
  • with pencils
  • or just enjoy alone!

Wondering how the gum tastes?  When my kids tasted it they said, “it tastes exactly like a Starburst, mom!”  So, if I can get a piece of sugar free gum that tastes like candy, I’m a happy camper, and so are they.  I bet their friends will be too.  Strawberry or Cherry, that’s the only question.  {{smiling}}

One of the things I love most about living in California is the FOOD.  We have really, really great food, and since the population is so diverse, we have a wonderful selection of cuisines to choose from.  I have to say though, that a trip to California isn’t complete without sampling the amazing Mexican food found in Southern California. #dineinCA California Restaurant Month is this January, the perfect time to treat yourself to dinner out.  California has fresh seasonal offerings that you definitely want to sample {smiling}.  Just about anywhere you go throughout the state you can find gourmet or casual menus and innovative chefs with mouth watering dishes.  Like my favorite.  La Tolteca. #dineinCA If you are ever in the eastern Los Angeles area, you’ll have to give La Tolteca {Azusa, CA} a try for delicious authentic Mexican cuisine.  It’s a family run restaurant that I’ve been frequenting for over 20 years with a casual atmosphere and amazing food.  You’ll find fresh homemade chips and salsa, tortillas and more, just begging to be devoured.  Don’t forget to try the carnitas tacos and the carne asada plate.  Trust me. #dineinCA

Pancake Breakfast Casserole

Pancake Breakfast Casserole – This casserole makes breakfast pancakes extra special by baking them in a rich, creamy custard. You can cook and freeze the pancakes ahead of time, but be sure to defrost them before using.   Kids really love this casserole.

Recipe type: Holiday Breakfast Casserole

This casserole makes breakfast pancakes extra special by baking them in a rich, creamy custard.
Ingredients
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, plus more for greasing the dish and serving
  • 1¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1½ teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 6 tablespoons sugar
  • Kosher salt
  • 1¾ cups buttermilk
  • 7 large eggs
  • 2 cups half-and-half
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • Maple syrup, for serving
  • Blueberries, for serving
Instructions
  1. Butter an 8-inch square baking dish; set aside. Put 3 tablespoons of the butter in a microwave-safe small bowl or liquid measure; microwave for 30 seconds to 1 minute to melt the butter.
  2. Whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, 3 tablespoons of the sugar and ½ teaspoon salt in a large bowl. In a separate small bowl, whisk together the buttermilk, 2 of the eggs and the melted butter. Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, and stir until just combined.
  3. Heat a large nonstick skillet or griddle over medium heat. Melt a little of the remaining butter in the pan. For each pancake, spoon ¼ cup of batter into the skillet and cook until the bottom is golden brown and small bubbles appear on the top, 2 to 3 minutes. Flip and cook until golden brown on the other side, about 2 minutes. If the pancakes brown too quickly, reduce the heat to medium-low. Transfer the pancakes to a plate as finished. Repeat until all the batter is used, adding more butter to the pan as necessary. (You should have at least 12 pancakes.)
  4. Whisk together the half-and-half, vanilla, the remaining 5 eggs and 3 tablespoons sugar, and ¼ teaspoon salt in a large bowl.
  5. Shingle the pancakes in the prepared baking dish. Pour the egg mixture evenly over the pancakes. Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 8 hours up to overnight to allow the pancakes to soak in the custard.
  6. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Remove the plastic wrap, and bake the casserole until it feels firm yet springy to the touch in the center and the custard is set, 50 to 60 minutes. Let cool 15 minutes before serving. Serve warm with maple syrup, blueberries and pats of butter.

Cornbread Breakfast Casserole

Breakfast Cornbread Casserole with Ham and Kale – The combination of ham and kale is traditional for a reason: it’s really great. Good news:  the casserole is easy to adapt to other greens and meat pairings, depending on what you have on hand: Try cooked sausage with frozen spinach or Andouille with frozen mustard greens.

French Toast Casserole

Panettone French Toast Casserole – Finally, a yummy use for the holiday cake that everyone loves to give but no one seems to eat. Panettone’s raisins, citron and pine nuts make this rich, custardy breakfast just right for special occasions.

Spinach Mushroom Cheese

Spinach, Mushroom and Cheese Breakfast CasseroleThis hearty meatless breakfast casserole is a great way to use up stale or leftover bread. The cubes on top bake into a delicious crunchy crust that is a crowd pleaser! The whole thing can be assembled the night before and popped into the oven in the morning.

corned beef hash casserole

Corned Beef Hash Brown CasseroleHere’s a casserole you can make the night before the big holiday-morning spread, leaving you free to tie up other details, which is my kind of dish.   It’s kind of like a fat Western omelet supercharged with crispy potato tots: hearty enough to be the main dish, fun for the kids and best of all, it’s even gluten-free.
