All opinions are 100% mine.

We made big changes in the way we ate a few months ago and cut red meat completely from our diet. Whoa, right? That’s a big deal for a family of 7. In the ensuing weeks, we made it our mission to find healthy, interesting and delicious ways to enjoy veggie burgers in ways that we had never thought of before. One of our favorite combinations are Black Bean Burgers with Guacamole and Sprouts. black bean burger

Teacher Appreciation Tote {free printable} Sun, 03 May 2015 07:00:00 +0000 Can you believe Teacher Appreciation week is here? I ADORE trying to come up with clever, fun and inexpensive ways to tell my kids teachers that they are appreciated, valued and not taken for granted. This year I wanted to let my kids’ teachers know that they are “golden”. So, for teacher appreciation week I decided that a gold hand stamped polka dot tote bag would do the trick. The nice thing about this idea is that you can customize it with any pattern or color and this technique can be used on any type of fabric. I’ve even made a free printable for you to attach to the tote, “You are TOTE-ally golden”!

Diy Tote

Materials Needed

 • Canvas Tote Bag
 • Fabric Medium
 • Metallic Craft Paint
 • Round Sponge Dauber

Instructions for Making a Gold Polka Dot Tote

 • Mix 2 parts metallic craft paint with 1 part fabric medium.

 • Dip round sponge into paint and remove excess paint by dabbing on paper plate.

 • Begin at the top of the tote bag. I went from left to right using two fingers width. Stagger your polka dots. I usually stick with a triangle pattern. If you have a template then it will make it much easier on you.

Gold Polka Dots

 • Tip: Add a sheet of parchment paper in between the tote bag so that the paint doesn’t bleed through to the other side. This will end up being a two part process because you have to wait for one side of the bag to dry before painting the other side.
 • Download, print, trim and attach the free tag.

]]> 5 Coconut Sugar Scrub {homemade gift idea} Mon, 20 Apr 2015 07:00:00 +0000 I’ve made a ton of sugar scrubs, but this is one of my favorites because it only uses TWO ingredients. All you need is coconut oil and sugar to make one of my favorite sugar scrubs! I adore that sugar scrubs are easy to make, package adorably and are good for your skin! Homemade scrubs are one of the best gifts ever! They are my new latest craze {as you know} and after the recent success of my Lemon Sugar Scrub for Mother’s Day gifts, and my Coffee Sugar Scrub for Teacher Appreciation I decided to go all out and try 6 more fruity sugar scrubs! So, here’s an easy-peasy, coconut sugar scrub recipe (with FREE printable tag) that’s perfect for gift giving!

coconut sugar scrub

This is the easiest sugar scrub recipes I’ve made. It’s also the least oily, smells the best and is my favorite so far. I love that sugar scrubs can be used on the hands, feet and body. I like to use sugar scrubs in the shower because they are such great exfoliators and the hot water dissolves the sugar crystals before they can be too abrasive.

Coconut Sugar Scrub Recipe

Mix Together {this recipe makes about 1 1/4 cups prepared}

 • 1 cup white sugar
 • 1/4 cup coconut oil

Decorate Jar

I used embellishments I had at home to decorate the jar. Ric Rac and ribbon that I had in my craft supply closet were used to wrap around the jar and a little clothes pin was used to pin on the “Coconut Sugar Scrub” tag. The tag can be downloaded for free below! The sugar scrub was super easy to make and the whole project took me a total of 20 minutes including pinning on the printable! It’s THAT easy.

That’s it! The Coconut Sugar Scrub is read to use or give as a gift!

How to Throw an Annie Party {DIY} Wed, 15 Apr 2015 07:00:00 +0000 How to Throw an Annie Themed Birthday Party is like a walk down memory lane. Annie may be new for the little ones, but it’s nostalgic for mom so it’s a win/win in my book! My sister throws amazing Themed Birthday Parties, and this was no exception. She designed the party with the help from Tricia Rennea, who did the printables around her daughters’s love of the movie Annie! She used red and white for her color palette with printables for decorations. So, if you are wanting to throw an Annie Themed Party, this post should give you plenty of ideas to get you started!

Annie Themed party

Annie Themed party

Annie Themed party

Annie Themed party

For decorations, she had an Annie Printable pack designed by Tricia Rennea which included a banner, invitations, cupcake toppers & wrappers, place cards/food cards and favor tags. She complimented the printables with tissue paper flowers {instructions for making tissue paper flowers found here}, and used gingham cloth for table coverings. {{so cute}}

Cake & Cupcakes

Annie Themed party

Annie Themed party

There were two choices of cupcakes; funfetti or red velvet. Cupcakes are great to have in addition to cake because kids usually prefer the cupcakes over cake. Plus, they are fun and easy to decorate with cupcake toppers. The cake was my sisters signature red velvet, and as you can see, she saved some crumbles for the cake and cupcakes. LOVE how that looks.

The secret to the smooth frosted cake is the new Cool Whip frostings. They’re light, not too sweet and perfect for frosting cakes. It’s also easy to work with.

The cake topper was made with bakers twine, printables and shish kebab sticks to anchor the banner. It was simple to make, anyone could do it!

Party Favors

Annie Themed Party

The party favors were super simple. The girls got girly girl items and the boys received items perfect for the summer. The cute tag played double duty as it made a great tag for the party favor bags and also thanked the guests for attending.

And that’s How to Throw an Annie Themed Birthday Party.

DIY Flower Crown {how to} Sun, 05 Apr 2015 07:00:00 +0000 Flower Crowns make the best summer and spring photo props ever. I’ve fallen in love with how flower crowns look in braided and wavy hair and so I had to make one. Surprisingly, they are easier to make than you’d imagine, and the best part is that they are completely customizable. When you make the DIY Flower Crown, YOU pick the flowers, and you custom fit the crown. It’s a win/win. Here’s how.

DIY Flower Crown

DIY Flower Crown

DIY Flower Crown

Flower Crown Supplies:

crown garland

 • Silk Flowers (my stem came from Michael’s for $4.99)
 • Green stem wire (I got a pack of 12 at Michael’s for $1.99)
 • Green floral tape (Michael’s, around a buck)
 • Scissors
 • Wire cutters

Instructions for Making a DIY Flower Crown:

Flower Crown

1. Get two pieces of stem wire and twist together two ends to make one long piece. Then, measure around head and twist those ends together to make crown. Cover ends with floral tape so you don’t have exposed pokey wire ends on your crown.

Flower Crown

2. Cut sections of bloom with wire cutters. I chose to cut about 4-5″ sections because that made the most sense with my flower choice.

3. Start attaching the flowers to the crown by twisting round the wire and attaching with floral tape. Add new sections of flowers until you are satisfied with your results! I staggered mine by about an inch each time.

3. Enjoy!

Sweet Easter Popcorn {recipe} Mon, 30 Mar 2015 07:00:00 +0000 How to Make Sweet Easter Popcorn is easy and perfect to make with little helpers because it’s fun to mix with your hands! I’ve found a few variations of this recipe online and decided I had to try it because popcorn with add-ons just makes me happy. Plus, I’ve tried a variation of this recipe with Chex mix {Vanilla Chex Mix} and my kids loved it. This Easter Popcorn Recipe uses popcorn, white chocolate chips, shortening (makes all the difference in consistency) a lemon cake mix (yummy), and candy sprinkles. The mix is perfect for Spring or Easter because it’s light and just looks and tastes cheery! It’s a great homemade gift idea for friends and neighbors, too!

Sweet Easter Popcorn

Sweet Easter Popcorn Ingredients

Sweet Easter Popcorn

 • 12 oz bag melted white chocolate chips
 • 1/4 cup vegetable shortening
 • 1 cup lemon cake mix
 • 8 cups plain popped popcorn
 • food coloring {optional}
 • Sprinkles

Directions {step-by-step}

Sweet Easter Popcorn

MELT white chocolate chips in microwave safe dish in microwave. My 12 oz. bag took about 2.5 minutes. I’d recommend melting your chips in 30 second increments.

Sweet Easter Popcorn

ADD the vegetable shortening to the melted chocolate. This is key is making the mixture the perfect consistency for mixing.

Sweet Easter Popcorn

ADD food coloring if you want. Just add enough drops for desired color. Stir in.

Sweet Easter Popcorn

ADD cake mix to the chocolate mixture.

POUR the chocolate mixture over the 8 cups of popped popcorn {make sure you don’t have any un-popped kernels in there!}. I’d recommend digging in with your hands to get it mixed if you have little helpers because it’s fun for them, but if you are doing this alone, using a spatula works just fine and is way less messy.

Sweet Easter Popcorn

SPREAD mix onto wax paper and then add sprinkles.

LET cool.

Sweet Easter Popcorn

ENJOY, or GIVE as a GIFT!

 • About 1/3 cup White Fluff Frosting, recipe follows
 • Green coconut grass, recipe follows
 • 6 small candied malt balls (2 yellow, 2 pink, 2 white)
 • 1 yellow chick peep
 • White Airhead candy
 • Vanilla Cupcakes:
 • 2 2/3 cups sugar
 • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, cut into 1-inch pieces
 • 2 large eggs
 • 2 large egg yolks
 • 2/3 cup milk
 • 2/3 cup water
 • 2 1/2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
 • 2 2/3 cups all-purpose flour
 • 1 1/3 cups cake flour
 • 4 teaspoons baking powder
 • 1/2 teaspoon fine salt
 • Fluff Frosting:
 • 1/4 cup whole milk
 • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
 • 10 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
 • 5 cups confectioners’ sugar
 • 1/2 cup marshmallow fluff
 • Pinch fine salt
 • Coconut Easter Grass for Cupcakes:
 • 2 cups sweetened shredded coconut
 • 1 to 2 teaspoons liquid green food coloring
 • 1/2 to 1 teaspoon liquid yellow food coloring
 1. Frost a cupcake with fluff frosting. Press a circle of coconut grass on top. Nestle the malted eggs on top of the grass. Gently press the peep onto the center of the grass. Cut the white Airhead into a 1/2 oval shape; trim one side so it has a cracked egg jagged edge. Place egg next to chick.
 2. Vanilla Cupcakes:
 3. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Line two 12-cup cupcake tins with paper liners. (To avoid cupcakes sticking if they overflow slightly, lightly spray the tops of the pans.) Put tins on a baking sheet. Set aside.
 4. Process sugar and butter in a food processor until very creamy, scraping sides as needed, 1 to 2 minutes. Add the eggs and yolks, one at a time, pulsing after each addition. Add the milk, water, and vanilla and process to blend.
 5. Whisk both flours, baking powder, and salt in a medium bowl. Add the dry ingredients, in 3 batches to the wet, pulsing, and then scraping batter off the sides of the processor as needed after each addition. Process until the batter is very smooth and pourable like pancake batter, about 2 minutes.
 6. Evenly pour the batter into the prepared cups, filling them 3/4 of the way full. Bake until the cakes are just firm and spring back when gently pressed, and the tops are golden, 18 to 25 minutes. Cool slightly in tin, and turn out of tin when cool enough to handle. Cool cupcakes completely on a rack before frosting.
 7. Fluff Frosting:
 8. Whisk the milk and vanilla extract together in a small bowl.
 9. Slowly beat the butter and sugar, in another medium bowl, with an electric mixer until incorporated. Raise the speed to high and mix until light and fluffy, about 5 to 7 minutes. (Occasionally turn the mixer off, and scrape the sides of the bowl down with a rubber spatula.) Add the fluff and salt and reduce the speed to low. Add the milk and vanilla mixture, scrape the bowl down, and mix until fully incorporated. Raise the mixer to high and beat briefly until fluffy, about 1 to 2 minutes. Frost cupcake immediately.
 10. Yield: 3 3/4 cups

 12. Coconut Easter Grass for Cupcakes:
 13. Preheat oven to 250 degrees F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Place a mesh rack on top, if available.
 14. Put coconut in a shallow bowl. While tossing with a large spoon, add food coloring drop by drop until the desired color is reached. A little more green than yellow makes a pretty grass color. Add a few tablespoons water to moisten the mixture and help disperse the color evenly. If the color is too dark, add additional water, as needed, to dilute to the desired color. Drain the coconut in a sieve or strainer.
 15. Spread the coconut in an even layer on the rack, or directly on the lined baking sheet. Place in the oven until dry, about 10 to 15 minutes. Use immediately, or store in covered container for up to 3 days.
 16. Cook’s Note: Food coloring can be messy and can stain your skin. To prevent this, wear latex gloves. You may find it easier to color the coconut in a large zip top plastic bag, tossing it to color evenly.
 17. Yield: 2 cups coconut grass
