Celebrate the season with four family holiday traditions that are sure to make your holidays merry and bright. Let’s uncover holiday traditions fit for the whole family this year!

Four Family Holiday Traditions to Start This Year

There’s no better time than the holidays to start new family traditions. Don’t let this year’s holidays be known more for their hustle and bustle than for being the most wonderful time of the year. Here are just a few ways your family can make sure to enjoy the reason for the season this year.

ONE:  Deck the halls. Whether it’s going to cut down your tree together or simply heading to the nearby tree lot to pick the perfect evergreen for your living room, families that deck the halls together are sure to get into the holiday spirit together too. Whether you start Thanksgiving weekend or closer to Christmas, the whole family is sure to enjoy decking your house out in festive décor.

TWO:  Give back. Have you ever considered spending a day volunteering in your community? This is not only a great way to show your kids there is more to the holidays than getting gifts, but also a wonderful opportunity to give back to those who need a bit of holiday cheer this season. Some ideas include:

  • Caroling in your neighborhood or in a nursing home
  • Serving a holiday dinner at a soup kitchen
  • Taking blankets and coats to a homeless shelter
  • Collecting gifts for a battered women’s and children’s home

THREE:  Spread holiday cheer. Spread some sweet holiday cheer by baking homemade cookies or other handmade desserts for your neighbors. And while you’re at it, consider making some for your mail carrier, garbage men, and even your barber and babysitter. Who doesn’t love a sweet treat during the holidays? This is also a great way to thank those in your community who continually offer you services that you couldn’t live without. And for an added activity, sit down with your kids and help them make handmade holiday cards to give out with your fresh baked goodies. This small gesture of thanks is sure to go a long way with both strangers and friends.

FOUR:  Capture the moment. When little ones are young you no doubt have your hands full simply with making sure they follow directions and stay safe. However, in the business of creating happy holiday memories, don’t forget to take out your camera while you cut your holiday tree, serve in your community and spread holiday cheer to neighbors and friends. Years from now you’ll want to see how you spent your holidays when the kids were young and eager to create family memories with you by their side. So, take pictures and be sure to capture the little moments you don’t want to ever forget.

There are so many ways to enjoy the holidays with your family. These are just four of many family holiday traditions you may want to start with your family this year. Another holiday tradition you may want to start before the year comes to a close is to review your insurance coverage in case your needs have changed. Request a few car insurance quotes online to make sure you and your family have the coverage that’s right for the coming year as you continue to spread cheer far past the holidays.

  1. I agree with all of these idas. I hate that most of them (all of them?) are especially talked abut during this season but at least it’s being talked about, you know? It’s so important for our kid to see us giving, to teach them the importance of having an open mind and heart.
