Facebook Status turned Blog Post

As it turns out, a status update on Facebook can be turned into a blog post;  because this is too good NOT to share.

Here’s my status update on Facebook:

I think I may be on the slippery slope to insanity. I thought it would be totally fine to drive 1200 miles alone with my kids….and take them camping and fishing, too. I’ll let you know if my new address is 1200 Looney Bin Lane when I get home.

And some of the responses that totally cracked me up:

I am going to search out a serene little institution for you. This does categorize you as either crazy or the most awesome mom ever.

1200 miles? alone? THEN camping? yes, u have already gone insane…are we there yet?

1200 MILES?? Don’t you have a nice camping spot closer to home? My friend, next time I’m in California (we’re hoping to do a road trip ourselves next summer) I’ll stop in at 1200 Loony Bin Lane to visit you. I’m pretty sure that’s where you’ll be… lol.

And the one that made my year?

I think you’ve passed Loony Bin Lane and are headed for Rubber Room Road via Straightjacket street!!!!!

Now, I decided to make this status update a blog post so that if you don’t see or hear from me again you’ll know why.

Jeff was unable to accompany me on the adventure of a lifetime and so I’m flying solo.

And, just to clarify?  I’m driving 600 miles each way to Utah to visit family and fulfill my life-long dream of:

  • Listening to children’s movies for 8 hours straight.  Twice.  Oh, and the sound of my children fighting over the sound of the movie, and hearing “are we there yet?” no less than 1200 times.
  • Tent camping without my husband.  You know, the one that likes to camp and pitches the tent for me and does most of the stuff I know how to do but don’t like to when camping.

Sounds fun, doesn’t it?

Before you feel too sorry for me though, I should tell you that I’m being a tad bit misleading.  Once I’ve driven 600 miles we’re going camping with my dad.

And,

I fully plan on him doing all the work.

He just doesn’t know it yet.

  1. Susie's Homemade says

It does sound like fun but a lot of things look good on paper:-)

  2. I think the heat must have gotten to you. I saw this status and thought you must be joking.

  3. I am all over roadtrips. Without children. I think you should come visit me!

  4. I was beginning to think you were already crazy, until I saw your dad would be there, too!

  5. Atta, girl! That is what Dad’s are for. I hope you have some fun.

    And good luck.

  6. My standard patented answer to that question – are we there yet? Yes, we’re there, now get out. Works best when traveling at 70 mph on the freeway. Needless to say, my kids don’t ask that one any more.

  7. OK, that doesn’t sound nearly as bad as I was think. Except for the driving part. Are you bringing ear plugs?

  8. To me that sounds like anything but fun. I think I would rather take the rubber room road to straightjacket street instead and that quote I agree was just fabulous. In case you are still sane and alive and well out there I wish you a sae trip.

  9. I love driving and it’s been a huge passion of mine for the longest time. In fact once when I was working, I drove three hours each day one way to work. If that doesn’t explain it nothing will. Praying for safe travels for you and the kids while you drive.

Wanted to wish you a great weekend!

    Love and Hugs ~ Kat

  10. Enjoy your new digs!!! HAHA! You’re nuts!

  11. OHHH! This makes me nervous just reading it. About to drive 10 hours alone with my kids to go camping … am I nuts!? Dang those family reunions that NEVER come at a good time for Clark’s schedule.

  12. Definite adventure! Good luck and be safe. And we’ll look for updates from Rubber Room Road.

  13. Hysterical. And I totally agree. You are crazy. Good luck.

  14. You know the best part of your plan? Dads/Grandpas are total suckers when it comes to doing all the work…I think you just might be on to something by leaving your husband at home!

  15. Hahahaha. If you can manage to get all of the kids up and ready for school or any of the things you do on a daily basis…..you can do this too. I have no doubt in my mind! Have fun and good luck. I cant wait to hear all about your adventures 😉

  16. I love it! Your favorite would be mine as well! That cracks me up… How fun though that you’ll get to spend time together though! 🙂

  17. LOL, I am happy that you are going to have your dad there while you are camping. I hope you guys have fun!

  18. These are the times I thank God for Pixar. And the marketing guy who thought up DVD players in cars. Have fun! =>

  19. Either way, it certainly sounds like an adventure, of the sort lasting memories are made. Have fun! And, God bless your dad, lol.

  20. I have been contemplating a 600 mile road trip without camping and thoughts of insanity filled my head. LOL

    Have fun!!

  21. You got me on the tent camping thing, but my husband is in the military and I often get stuck with solo trips because of his last-minute departures. When my daughter was 8 months old and my son was 4, I drove 1500 miles from NJ to TX to visit family by myself. I split it into three days and it actually wasn’t too bad until the last leg/day of the trip. My son threw up from Alabama all the way to Texas and I had to keep pulling over and emptying his puke bucket and cleaning him up. THAT was NOT FUN! So.. may the force be with you.. good luck… and no pukey kids!

  22. Yeah, I feel your pain after just coming back from a 4 day stint with my 3. Cleveland to Florida by plane…thank God because a car ride would have killed me. Or them.

  23. whoa…I can see why you’re headed to the Loony Bin! Good luck with that one!

  24. This post is too good…..LOL. I’m glad you survived your adventure and made it back home safe and sound. 🙂
