Cold Germs ONLY Survive For 3 Hours

I learned recently on the Vicks VapoRub Facebook page that cold germs only survive for 3 hours. I guess intuitively I assumed this, but it is nice to have a definitive answer, especially now that we have 14 feet fully exposed in the world during the height of the cold and cough season.

None of us have gotten sick yet, which is a small miracle, but I’m not holding my breath.  With 5 children in school, a mama who volunteers in the schools, and a husband who works in the health care industry, it’s only a matter of time before the cold  bug invades our home.  This year when it does however, I’m not going to worry about wiping every knob and counter down immediately.

I’m just going to send everyone to bed and let those germs die a relatively quick 3 hour death.

Sounds like a great plan, right?  🙂

  1. nice to know! i like your plan and shall also adopt it 🙂

  2. Sounds like a GREAT plan!! :o) Thanks for the info.

  3. I wish that plan would work for me! There are 3 things I find help to prevent a cold when I feel one coming on:

    1. I Take LOTS of vitamin C. I don’t mean the drugstore stuff. I mean the high end supplement company time-release capsule stuff. Take 1 500mg capsule an hour and it really strengthens the immune system.

    2. Glug water like your life depends on it! If I can down a couple of quarts in an hour or so it really helps flush out my system. (This is especially helpful for oncoming sore throats.)

    3. I also Apply Young Living’s Thieves blend liberally to forehead and wrists 3-4x a day. It’s a potent antimicrobial blend which has prevented many a cold from getting to me! (You can also diffuse it in the house, which is even better for killing air-born germs.)

  4. I’m happy to learn that. And your plan does sound like a good one.
