This month is Down Syndrome Awareness Month, and I couldn’t NOT share this picture of my niece.  I think she’s the cutest darn thing ever.  If you’d like to learn more, I wrote this post about her, and what I know.  It’s not much, but it’s something.  I’d love for you to read it.

This is it, my friends.  This is the end of my “Camping in Utah” posts.  I’m patting myself on the back for EVER finishing!

Another activity we do while we are camping in Utah is fishing.  I should amend that.  I don’t fish.  I go along for the ride.  Jeff and my dad bate and cast a million lines and then the kids get bored and then we pack up and go back to camp.  I don’t know why we bother, but we do it every year.  If nothing else, the scenery is beautiful. This year we drove about an hour to get to this lake and then a storm came up so our fishing trip didn’t last long.

I do believe I’ve almost gotten to the end of my “Camping in Utah” posts.  One of the big things we do while we are camping is explore the area on quads, motorcycles and other 4 wheeled thinger-ma-bobs that carry us around the mountains. It’s always so much fun, and I ADORE spending the day exploring.  It’s GORGEOUS up there.

It’s finally time to circle back to our annual Utah camping trip.  I have so many pictures of the trip though that I’ve put it off.  I put all of my photos in a folder on my desktop and then I open it up and just stare at them, wondering how many chunks to break the trip into.  The problem is that I have so many photos I want to share and I don’t want to have to pick just a few….{smiling}.

Our Annual Utah Camping Trip

I’ve mentioned before that we go camping every year with my side of the family in the mountains in Central Utah.  My dad, sisters and brother all attend and we do a ton of exploring on quads, motorcycles and 4×4 vehicles.  The mountains are absolutely gorgeous and it’s always so nice to get away from the normal hustle and bustle of life and enjoy nature without the interruption work, phones and the internet.  {{smiling}}  This post is all the shots I captured of us sitting around camp.  Obviously not everyone is in these shots.  They must not have been sitting around.  {{laughing}}

My kids headed back to school last week and I’ve had a hard week, let me tell you.  Bisco the dog and I have been moping around the house wondering what to do with our selves.  It’s like the heart of our home is missing and it’s sad, sad, sad.  During the summer I just want a few minutes of peace and quiet, but now that the kids are gone I miss their noise and chaos.  Plus, I think it’s really hitting me how quickly they grow up and that I don’t have a ton of time left with them before they head off into the world to become independent creatures.   Of course, that’s the ultimate goal, but I didn’t think it would creep up so quickly.  Now, when you see the pictures you’ll wonder what I’m talking about.  My oldest isn’t even in high school yet. But she will be.  Next year.  And then everyone else will be and then they’ll be done.  I’ll blink and they’ll be gone.  I just know it.  But, enough of that.  Here’s a big part of my heart on the first day of school 2013:

While we were in Washington DC we took a night tour of most of the National Monuments.  It’s a great way to see the sights and beat some of the heat.  Plus, there is something about seeing the monuments illuminated at night that’s really lovely.  It’s another touristy thing to do in Washington DC that I’d highly recommend.

While we were in Washington DC we visited the Capitol Building and the Library of Congress.  I should tell you right up front that the Library of Congress was my favorite building in DC.  I’m not sure if is the bibliophile in me or just experiencing one of the “world’s largest collection of knowledge, culture, and creativity” all in one place that just spoke to me, but I LOVED it.  The interior really took my breath away!  If you ever have the chance to visit, you must!

See what I mean about the interior?  Everything about it is just beautiful.  The most amazing thing is that artisans did the work for free.  Yes. Free.

Our local Representative Judy Chu got us passes for a tour of the Capitol Building.  The tour was great because it’s not to long and one gets to the rotunda, which is pretty darn spectacular.  It’s really neat to hear the history of the Capitol Building and walk where so much of our history has taken place!

Have you been to Washington DC?  If so, what is your favorite building?

{Metro Station}

I promised last week that I’d post pictures of our trip camping, but once I uploaded all of my pictures to my computer I felt completely overwhelmed.  I have too many to go through to even wrap my mind around.  So, this week for Wordful Wednesday you get pictures from my recent trip to Washington DC.  The girls and I had the opportunity to visit Maryland and Washington DC for a week and we traveled around on the Metro.  We felt pretty accomplished getting everywhere we needed to on the Metro system which, admittedly, is easy to navigate, but for California girls who are used to driving everywhere, this was a big deal!  {{smiling}}

Union Station

Some of the stations are seriously gorgeous, too, like Union Station in Washington DC.

photo-1121

The escalators up and down to the Metro at some of the stops were awe inspiring!

Metro

Knowing we were that far underground was a little freaky, to tell you the truth!

Metro

But I’m not complaining.  The Metro System was good to us {{not necessarily the Metro Station Workers, who were complete grouches across the board, though}}.  The Metro System got us everywhere we need to be, when we were supposed to be there, so I give it two thumbs up.
