My babies turned eight.  Eight. Eight is a huge milestone in our house because it’s the age they can decide if they want to be baptized.  They DID want to be baptized and it was so sweet to see them baptized one right after the other.  I have to tell you though, thinking about my babies as eight is doing me in.  Eight is great for them, but it’s doing a number on me.  {{smiling}}

We had a really fun family dinner after the baptism, that post, coming later this week.  If you are into decorating with printables, you won’t want to miss it!

Can you believe Christmas is in a week?  {{freaking out a little}}

Looks like this week is all about the twins.  Again.  But, to be fair, they did just turn EIGHT, and we have been celebrating.  These pictures were taken in their new BIRTHDAY clothes from Gymboree.  I’m guessing that I don’t have much time left where they’ll willingly be little models for me, so I’d better soak this in.

The day we took these pictures it was so gorgeous outside.  I seriously couldn’t have asked for better weather.  I need to count my blessings.  Nice climate.  Good kids.  Great family.  I am thankful.

My babies turned 8 this week.  EIGHT.  I know that EIGHT IS GREAT, but I’m kind of in denial.  Once again.  How did this happen, and where was I when 8 years passed like the blink of an eye?

We did a LOT of celebrating, lucky ducks.

Soccer season ended for the twins and I’m so happy.  They had a great season, but I’m selfishly happy that for a few weeks at least I can reclaim at least part of my Saturdays back.  Maybe I should re-think this sports thing. {{laughing}}

Do your kids play sports?  Do you mind giving up your weekends or am I the only selfish one?

Wordful Wednesday – Family History Fun

I’ve been having so much fun with Family History Research lately.  I recently took a class at church learning how to more effectively search for ancestors and one of the ways I chose to look for ancestors was to explore connections via DNA.  About a year ago I signed up with 23andme.  I was interested in learning more about my lineage, I wanted to get updates on my DNA as science advances, and I also wanted to get reports on 240+ health conditions and traits.  That was important to me.  Since that time time, I’ve made contact with a few distant cousins, a 3rd cousin with a relationship that we’ve been able to trace, and……a 3rd cousin with a relationship that is a bit trickier to trace.

See, it appears that we are related through his adopted grandmother.  And she knows nothing about her biological family.  My family knows nothing about children adopted out of the family.  In my search to help find our “connection” through DNA, I’ve found some pretty amazing things.  Like there are two probable paths that we are related, and this is found using a mathematical equation using our xDNA path.  It’s amazing.  I found this out by uploading my DNA profile to Gedmatch and then asking the kind administrators for help.  Next, I emailed a cousin who I knew was heavily into genealogy work and she pretty much rocked my world.  She sent me a document that literally brought tears to my eyes.  MY genealogy going back THIRTEEN generations with end notes and an index.  It has pictures, personal histories, eulogies.  It’s priceless.

It’s amazing how many people out there are willing to help connect families and help unravel mysteries.

And in the midst of this, I stopped by my sisters house and saw these pictures of my mom hanging on her bulletin board.  I had never seen them before.  And I love them.  It seemed like another little hint to me that families are important and that sharing pictures and stories and connections are important.

The fire is lit.  I’m going to try to do what I can to make my little mark in my family to share what I can…..because learning about families and their histories should be, and can be fun.

So, here’s to making FAMILY HISTORY SEARCHES FUN!

Grace and I were discussing this morning that next year the kids will be going to 3 different schools.  She’ll be in HIGH SCHOOL, Emma will be in junior high and the boys will still be in elementary school.  I looked over at her and she looked so grown up and I rolled the words HIGH SCHOOL around in my head and I really almost threw up.

How did so much time pass that I almost have a HIGH SCHOOLER?   How did my little girls go from this to young women?  I know it’s the lament of parents all over the world but seriously.   How does this happen?  I want my babies back, even if it’s just for a few minutes.  I miss those baby smells and fat arms and legs and tummies.

I can’t believe it’s dress up time again!  I don’t know where the time goes!  This year we had a Halloween party to go to where dressing up was mandatory for me, so I actually dressed up, and wonder of all wonders, it’s actually kinda of fun when your costume isn’t lame!  {{laughing}}

Here were are all dressed up for the pre-Halloween parties last weekend.

I wish I had had Jeff make a tutorial for this costume.  The fir came from a girls vest we bought at a thrift store and the base of the costume is a Luke Skywalker costume, also from a Thrift Store.  Jeff completely transformed pieces that we picked up and assembled this costume for about $25 including hat, shield, ax, and sword.

Yesterday I published a post that was a year in the works.  I mean, it wasn’t literally in the works for a year, but in a way in was, because for the past year, my sweet daughter has been battling a rare disease called juvenile dermatomyositis.  We’ve kept her disease pretty quite all this time, but lately I’ve felt like we should try to raise awareness about the disease and try to raise money for a cure, because that’s what we really want.  A cure for my daughter and all of the other children battling with this disease.

So, if you’d like to learn more {awareness} and/or help with research {find a cure}, go here.

I haven’t been home at all this week so I’m totally cheating for Wordful Wednesday.  I’m borrowing a photo from a post from earlier in the week to use today.  It’s sort of born of necessity because I have nothing else to show you, but I also want to tell you WHY I’m wearing glasses.  Many of you know that I had Lasik eye surgery a few years ago so I really don’t need glasses.  However, I’ve wanted to get a pair again ever since I had the surgery.  Just, you know, to have because I feel smart when I wear them.  And now I have them.  See?

lookmaticIf you want to get yourself a pair because you need them or just because you want them, I’m giving away $750 worth of Lookmatic glasses {that’s the brand I’m wearing}, plus and iPad mini.  So, if you are interested, click on over and enter here:  $750 Lookmatic Glasses {giveaway} + iPad Mini

Hope you are having a wonderfully wordful week!
