This week I decided to take a break from my vacation posts and show a picture of my happy heart.  Mother’s Day was a day that left me feeling grateful for my family. I could’t be luckier.

Remember that I mentioned last week that we went on a family vacation that allowed us to unplug for a whole week and it was wonderful?  We’ll, part of the vacation was on our first cruise, and it was on the Disney Wonder.  We flew to Florida and cruised to Grand Cayman and Cozumel before heading back to Miami.  It was wonderful to get away, although I’m not positive that cruising is our families favorite way to vacation.  I’m just not a breakfast and lunch buffet type of girl, and Jeff is not a big lover of crowds at the pool.  That being said, the ship was beautiful and the rooms were roomy and always clean, and we had a great time.  The entertainment was great, too.

Wordful Wednesday – Sanibel Island, Florida

Sanibel Island is one of our favorite vacation destinations.  I only wish it  were closer to home and not across the country.  Sanibel is known for it’s amazing shell beaches and wildlife refuge (J. N. “Ding” Darling), plus it’s home to one of my favorite restaurants, The Island Cow. We first came here two years ago, and loved it so much we had to come back again this year.  The laid-back atmosphere, fabulous shelling and Ding Darling refuge were a few things that we wanted to experience again.

Sanibel Island

I cannot even begin to tell you how fabulous the shells are.  The beaches are literally LITTERED with shells at places so thick you can’t even find the sand!  I could seashell here all day, everyday.

Wordful Wednesday – Family Vacation = Happiness

We went on a family vacation for Spring Break.  It was LOVELY.  9 Days of just Jeff and the kids and me, UNPLUGGED.  It helped that most of the time we were on a ship in the Caribbean with good food and entertainment and someone to clean up after us 24/7.  The best part though, was definitely the time spent together without Internet noise.  I had so much fun that I’m STILL having a hard time getting back to reality and sitting down to actually blog about our trip seems downright overwhelming.  So, for my first post (because more are definitely coming), I’m just sharing some of my favorite pictures of us together, enjoying each others company, without the distraction of  dings, pings, rings, kicks, texts, phone calls and all of the other fun things that iPhones, iPods and iPads bring to our lives.  :)

I got to attend Astro Camp with Emma a few weeks ago.  It was absolutely fabulous.  The classes were insanely informative and interesting and the food?  The food was good.  Even the dorms were comfortable. It was so fun to be able attend camp with her as a chaperone and witness just one of the programs that my kids are able to take part in to supplement their education.  I feel really lucky.

Wordful Wednesday ~ Easy Peasy Crafty

Both of my sisters are super-duper crafty.  I like to think that it runs in the family, but it doesn’t.  They have a whole lot more talent than I do.  Take these items for example.  My sister threw together these items for her daughters party and they are INCREDIBLY simple, but I would have never thought of them.  It’s all in the execution!  :)

Milk Bottles with Sugar on top

This first one is sugar topped glasses.  She used milk bottles (I need to ask her where she purchased them), ran a lime around the rim of the glasses and then stuck them in a shallow bowl of colored sugar.  Viola!  Then she popped in a paper straw and she had the cutest darn glasses ever.  She also made ombre tissue paper flowers that you can see at the edge of the picture.  Here’s the Ombre Tissue Paper Flower Tutorial! {{score}}

cupcake

And these cupcake sleeves?  Notice that they are peacock feathers?  That was the theme of the party.  She cut them out with her Silhouette machine.  All it took was a few pieces of paper.  So clever.  I would have spent all day going from store to store to store looking for just the right cupcake liner.  Duh!!!!

What side of the crafty camp are you on?

Little League Baseball is in full swing in these parts and my boys are busy.  I mean, we’re busy, because as you all know, at this age, where they go, I go, so every practice and game that they have, I have too.  :)

Twins Baseball

The twins are playing “coach pitch” baseball, while Garrett is playing “player pitch” baseball.  Garrett pitching This means he gets to pitch.  He’s not exactly thrilled, but he (and the twins) love baseball, and I’m glad.  Otherwise, the time commitment totally wouldn’t be worth it.

Garrett baseball

I’ll come back up for air sometime around the end of May.  See you then.  :)

Wordful Wednesday – Rest in Peace, Grandpa Poe

grandpa dean

Last week was a sad week.  We said goodbye to our much loved grandfather and great-grandfather, nicknamed, grandpa Poe.  There aren’t many people full of innate goodness like Dean.  I can’t even begin to tell you how much he’ll be missed.

grandpa poe

It was the kids first loss that they can remember, and even though I think he was ready to go home, we are all still pretty heartbroken.

There’s always so much work that goes into saying goodbye, including going through stuff.  I was the recipient of this Thermo Spoon from 1965 that I’m pretty excited about, although I wish it didn’t come my way this way.  It’s a combination thermometer and spoon that’s lasted 50 years!

thermo spoon

And look at these old cake decorating paste colors!  So many treasures.  I think that maybe that’s the point of leaving things behind.  So that the one’s feeling sad have little treasures to find to remind them of the ones that passed, since each object has some meaning; in this case, memories of grandpa Dean linked with grandma Doris.

When my kids get together with their cousins, there is always wrestling and a little bit of good chaos involved.  This past weekend I caught a shot that just made me laugh.

Cousin Chaos

My favorite part of the picture is that grandma is sitting in the background oblivious to the noise and wrestling going on at her feet and doing her own thing.  I’m pretty sure it’s one of those skills one acquires after having 6 kids and over 20 grandkids, and then there is Jeff with a child sitting on his head.

Classic.
