Barbies-Survival of the Fittest

My MIL called me a few days ago to tell me that her basement had a water line break and that some of my items were soaked. ย She started listing some of the items but when she got to my BARBIE dolls I almost had a HEART ATTACK.

The possibility that my Barbies might be ruined seriously sent me into a panic.

Growing up, I had a couple of Barbies.

Period.

I knew every shirt, pant, and accessory that I owned and I’ve lovingly kept them all these years.

My childhood foresight {I had no idea I was so smart} to wrap my Barbie collection in plastic paid off because….

Because………..

They survived the flood.

Thank goodness.

I mean, what would I have done without one more thing to shove up on my garage rafters in a leak proof container?

  1. Cool Barbies!!! Glad they were saved!

  2. Good thing they didn’t drown. Funny that you still have all that stuff. Well, I guess I still have my Cabbage Patch kid even if my sons use her as a hostage.

  3. I had/have a great love of Barbies. So glad they are all safe.

  4. I can imagine the relief you felt:) Good thinking!!

I have the same blue and white dress, well, my daughter plays with it now.

  5. Those treasure from childhood are so precious! I am so glad that yours was preserved:-)

  6. ROFL! And what are you planning on doing with these old Barbies?

    Justine ๐Ÿ˜ฎ )

    • now. That’s the best part. Wrapping them back up and putting them up in the rafters. It’s always been my dream you know to make about a million dollars from selling them when I’m 90.

  7. Hooray for the safety of Barbie and friends!

I am so glad that they were safe!

  8. I have no idea what happened to my Barbies. Now I’m sad.

  9. You said Barbie collection and I thought you must have had hundreds. I love that it’s just three and that you actually wrapped them in plastic at some point in your life.

  10. Phew! Glad they are ok!
Hmm I can’t imagine if that would of happen to my strawberry shortcake collection dolls and house….yikes!

  11. I have no idea where my Barbies are…Hopefully, they’re safe in my parents’ attic. Don’t think I could make too much cash off of them – I always went crazy w/trying to fix their hair and that never ended well.

  12. Well of course those managed to make it out. I think Barbies, roaches (the bug kind), and twinkies will out live all of us making it out any disaster. ๐Ÿ˜€

  13. I got a kick out of this. I have some too and feel really sentimental that they exist somewhere, where and how safe I have no need to know. LOL!

  14. Hey they all have their heads, hair, AND arms!

good luck on that Million bucks…what will you spend it on when your 90??? a Gold Grill?? lol

  15. Good thing! I have my barbies in a box at my mom’s house. Aiyana loves looking at them when we go over.

  16. Why are you saving them and not letting the girls play with them?
I personally, NEVER liked Barbies, so it’s a shock to me that mine do.
I liked dump trucks. Big ones.

  17. Lol! I’m so glad they made it!

  18. I am so glad they survived!

I still have my “My Little Pony” collection from 1983!

Oh, I did not get to comment on your Valentine posting – you and your hubby have not changed much in 17 years! You both still look great!

    • My Little Pony’s came on the scene right when I was too old for them. I always wanted about 50 though.

  19. that’s cute Angie….I still have a couple of my old stuffed animals….

  20. Ahhhhh, the sweet memories. Glad that they were ‘saved!’

  21. Whew… Glad the Barbies are safe. I wish I knew where mine were.

  22. Thank Goodness!! This stuff is so cool!

  23. Holy Mary…. Thank God! I am so glad you got all your Barbies back unharmed… Do you think they all boarded the Barbie Van or got in the hot tub to stay safe??

Okay, I still have all my Barbies- and just today I got in the mail the 80s Ladies Cyndi Lauper Barbie… Nothing beats the feeling of a new Barbie. I think you should add to your collection.

    • Ah. Someone that can really appreciate my potential heartache over the possible passing of my Barbies. ๐Ÿ™‚

      • Oh, you have so inspired me to post about my Barbies… how I lost my collection… how it came back to me… and how I used a very special Barbie in my wedding planning.

Oh yes… a post is coming!

  24. I LOVED my Barbies!! My mom even sewed them special clothes. I played with them for hours. Glad they survived the flood!

But flooded basements are no good!!

  25. ♥ I’m glad they survived! How fun! ๐Ÿ™‚

  26. Wow you are super smart, I never kept any of my childhood things….those are vintage! I’m surprised you never caved in a let your children play with them. Have a wonderful Tuesday.

    • I wouldn’t even consider letting my girls play with the 1950’s ones. I’m mean that way. ๐Ÿ™‚

  27. Oh thank goodness! I wish my mom had kept my Barbies, though some of them were worse for wear (I went through a hair stylist phase where I cut a lot of their hair). My grandma had given me some of the 50s ones, but I’m not sure where they went to. They weren’t my favorites. ๐Ÿ™‚

  28. I loved the rollers too!!!
