Beach Camping

by Angie on July 29, 2010

Jeff and I took the kids beach camping last week.  I’m sure for most of you this is not a big deal, but for me, it was huge.

I’m not the biggest fan of tent camping.   I have a hard time with dirt everywhere. I prefer indoor, PRIVATE plumbing.  When I do the dishes I kind of like to have a dishwasher.  When my kids are covered in dirt, I like for them to be able to take a shower and put on clean clothes before climbing into their beds.  I like having clean surfaces to prepare meals on.  I like my own bed.

I’m spoiled that way.

This attitude has caused me to be a bit jaded in my feelings about camping and I’m not always very amiable when the topic comes up.

This summer was different.  The twins are finally old enough that I felt like it would be manageable.

And it was.

We had a great time camping, and I’m pretty sure my kids loved every minute of it.

Except when I was freaking out about them entering the tent with dirty feet.

One of Mama Kat’s writing prompts was about camping this week, to see more, go visit her.

What a ball! Great times!!!! I love how kids can sleep happily anywhere. I am such the “princess and the pea” when I camp now. :)

I love camping, but I really prefer a place that has indoor plumbing. Electricity is nice, too!

I’m a fan of rugs at the door — one outside and one inside. :)

I have the very same pet peeves as you when it comes to camping as well as loud and noisy neighbor campers as well. Love how well this all turned out and I am sure you enjoyed listening to the sounds of the ocean nearby.

I love the great outdoors, hiking etc but camping, no, definitely not my thing and I am not looking forward to doing it with our daughter and may have to just send her off with Daddy. Glad you had a good time and you are a braver woman than I!

I’m with ya, I HATE camping. But if you were to give me a beach, I just might be swayed :) Looks like fun!

Oh I am with you! I always camped as a kid, but I’m not sure I could handle it now. You’re a good sport!

I love camping! But I am the “freak” that brings a big tub and scrubs my kids down before they get into the tent. They are only 3 and one so it is easy to hold them down and do LOL. I don’t like dirt in the tent other then that I really love camping. Glad you all had a great time, your kids will have such great memories of this trip!

Oh that looks like so much fun! We haven’t done actual tent camping either for a long time….about 14 years! I used to love it, until we did the rustic cabin thing, with plumbing, a sink to do dishes, showers, etc. Campfire food and campfire coffee is enough for me!

We always have young enough babies that we almost can’t do it for a while….someday I’m sure we’ll return to the tenting scene though! :)

My hubby keeps talking about going camping. In the forest. Without plumbing. I keep telling him, “Yes! Go!” I could use some time alone. At home. With the plumbing.

I can’t wait til my kids are all old enough – maybe in a coupe of years – but I am so with ya about a few things – I need a shower, toliet and no dirt in my tent too!

We are going camping at the beach for 4 days over Labor Day weekend. I hear there isn’t much shade and the bugs are relentless. Besides that I am looking forward to the beach, the camping, the relaxing, and the island we are going to is a state park with wild horses, lots of fun!
