{A little letter to my laptop}

by Angie on March 7, 2010

Dear Laptop,

I’d address you by your name, but I’m too irritated with you to do so.

I’ve always had a love/hate relationship with technology, but in my ignorance I never thought the feeling was mutual between us.  I didn’t know that you have a love/hate relationship with me as well.  Why do you hate me?   And, when I say hate, me, I really do mean HATE me.  I don’t know what I did to deserve this treatment, yet despite all the hours I’ve spent pouring nothing but good thoughts and energy into you, you are treating me poorly.

Very, very poorly.  Don’t worry though, the feeling is starting to become mutual.  You are mad at me for some reason and are with holding all of my pictures and documents;  I’m annoyed at you and am thinking of replacing your grudge holding self.

Let’s call it a truce, shall we?

Give up my information and I’ll keep you.  Continue to hoard it and I’ll have to do something drastic.

Deal?

Your owner,

Angie

And who says we haven’t yet created intelligent machines, a la the Matrix? Those laptops know how to treat you wrong sometimes, don’t they?

Ugh… good luck :)

You have to show them who’s boss. Even if it means one of you ends up in a crushed heap on the floor.

4 Puna March 7, 2010 at 8:43 am

You speak so nicely to it. Mine would be a mass of nuts, bolts and processings chips on the floor:)

I would say something derogatory about my laptop (3rd one in as many years) but I’m afraid mine might take up your laptop’s cause and take to the streets carrying little placards denouncing us blogging bourgeoisie and calling for our demise.

You’re a good little laptop, aren’t you? Yes you are! Yes you are!

I can so relate…can you send a letter to my laptop too? Maybe it’ll listen to you since it never listens to me =)

Sometimes I do wonder if they don’t have a mind of their own. Right now the hinges to my laptop screen are broken so it’s being propped up by a pillow – that one is probably my fault (or the T Rex’s!). Good luck.

I lost the address of the person I’m supposed to send my books too. They are sitting in the box ready to go, but I don’t know who I’m supposed to send them too. And I can’t find your email address.

I know that feeling!

I need to have a talk with mine too!

Kick it. That will do the trick…or break it. If it works give me the credit. If it breaks, you have no one to blame but yourself, my friend.

Hugs and Mocha,
Stesha

Just get a Mac! You won’t be sorry.

I honestly think the computer manufacturers programmed emotions into computers without telling the rest of us and yours is in a bad bad mood. Hope your letter gets results.

14 Stacie March 7, 2010 at 8:29 pm

Good Luck! I lost all my pictures on my desktop. Only thing was it was my fault as I formatted the wrong hard drive.

15 Nancy March 7, 2010 at 9:52 pm

Chalk it up to CPMS.

{That’s computer PMS. It’s real. I know it is. Just ask Sheila, my little netbook.}

16 Dina @ 4 Lettre Words March 8, 2010 at 4:15 am

Oh, no! Hope (s)he gives in really soon.

P.S. I’m shipping out my books this morning. Can’t wait to see what I receive! :o )

17 Jen March 8, 2010 at 5:31 am

Why so things gotta be like this? Its not fair. I hope that you come to some agreement soon.

18 Elyse March 8, 2010 at 6:38 am

Oh Angie! My computer and I have times like this. We go around and around half the time. Sometimes the computer wins and sometimes I win. Hopefully the computer will cooperate!

You can imagine my delight when my Hubs turned the television into a giant computer. Ugh.

20 Justine March 8, 2010 at 10:01 am

Sounds to me like it’s time for a replacement! Hey, if an inanimate object leads you to writing it a letter, it’s time for it to go!

Justine :o )

Hope this ‘talking to’ helped. I finally got Dell Tech Support to take me seriously (after MANY frustrating calls) and ever since my laptop has been cooperating magnificently … it’s about time!
Hugs and blessings,

I really hope you two come to an agreement. That is a very bad battle to be in.

23 CC March 8, 2010 at 4:12 pm

I’ve begged and pleaded for mine to get faster. But it’s such a sloth. Ugh.

That is very funny! I have been having some issues with my computer too and it is so irritating. I am not very tech savvy so it is even more frustrating when something goes wrong. Good luck!!

My laptop totally hates me too. I’m about to send her back for the third time to get repaired. The bitch.

I freaking LOVE this post. Totally had me dying laugh.

I say kill the bitch. She has it coming.

27 sierra March 9, 2010 at 6:31 am

I’ve been tempted to “coax” mine with a hammer. The IT guys at work insist (in frantic tones) that this will not work. There may come a day when it is worth finding out….

I pet my laptop and whisper “You are the best… you are soooo skinny!” And she treats me very well. Maybe yours needs some positive affirmation

29 MICHELLE March 9, 2010 at 11:44 am

What a horrible feeling. I hope you get everything recovered! I am going to backup my photos right now!

30 Wendy March 9, 2010 at 2:18 pm

Get tough!

31 scrappysue March 9, 2010 at 3:15 pm

Computers can be so frustrating. One day they’re working and the next day they’re not. Good luck. Hope it’s an easy fix and you get your info back.

33 Cecily R March 9, 2010 at 5:09 pm

There’s this stupid jingle that runs between stupid Nick shows about a laptop…and now it is stupidly stuck in my head. Oh LAPTOP…

Sorry yours is giving you grief. Hope it’s fixed and you’ve kissed and made up by now. :)

Why must they be so temperamental? Maybe it’s feeling all used…you know, all one-way relationship and all? Maybe some flowers are in order?
