Luck? Or Divine Intervention?

by Angie on January 18, 2010

{THIS ACTUALLY HAPPENED LAST WEEK-I forgot to publish.}

I made 3 batches of blueberry lemon scones for my daughters class yesterday.

After I had zest-ed and juiced the lemons, added them to the mix, and made the glaze, I realized my lemons were actually limes.

I know that sounds crazy, but it’s true.  My husband’s grandpa has a lime tree that produces these amazing YELLOW, lemon sized limes.  For real.

Anyway, by the time I had figured out that I had just made about 50 blueberry LIME scones, it was too late.  No way was I going back and making making new ones with lemon.

I was a bit harried anyway {since I had to fit making scones into my already busy day} when something started nagging at me.

The handle from my sugar canister was off when I started baking and although the handle was in sight, the screw that attaches it was not.

I started thinking…..”was that a metal hitting metal ding I heard when I added the sugar?”

“Surely not.  But possibly”.

If there was a screw in my batter, I’d know it though, right?  When it was mixing I would have noticed it.  When I was dropping the scones on the baking sheet, I would have found something foreign, right?

Wrong.

I pushed that nagging feeling aside and forgot all about it.

Until today.

When I took 3 batches of scones to my daughters classroom where all of the students in her class and their parents partook of them.

And my daughter brought me a metal thing that she found in HER scone.

I’m left wondering if the fact that she got the scone with the screw in it was LUCK  or divine intervention?

I would have been horrified if someone else got the screw thingy in their scone.  I would have died if someone got hurt by it.

I’m going to call it a little of both and call it a day.

I’ll try to remember this lesson in the future, too.

Twisted Silver Heirloom earrings up for grabs, here!

I hate it when things like that happen! Sometimes, I think luck is divine intervention:-)

4 Elizabeth January 18, 2010 at 6:14 am

Wow! I say probably a little bit of both. So how did they taste with the lime instead of lemon?

5 em January 18, 2010 at 6:39 am

I’m thinking your daughter should have to make the next batch of scones – kind of like finding the baby in a King Cake.

No such thing as a coincidence. Devine intervention for sure.

Oh my goodness! I am so glad that no one ended up eating it!

I love limes so I would have totally loved the lime scones!!

They were good, but I had to add extra sugar to the glaze so they didn’t have a bitter after taste.

Holy crap, that’s pretty wild. But you didn’t say how they tasted with the lime instead of the lemon.

Justine :o )

The lime was a little more bitter in the glaze so I just added more sugar. :)

Emma came home and told me that all the kids said, “those scones looked gross, but they were really, really good”.

I think the blueberries didn’t look so hot to the kids.

I am not sure what you would call it, but thankfully your daughter got it! This sounds likes something that would happen to me.

We also have one of those lime that looks like lemon trees.

I still can’t believe how lucky that was.

The limes are the best I’ve ever had, but I wish they were just a little green so my pea brain didn’t get confused. :)

I’m going with divine intervention. That is SO LUCKY that it was your own child to came up with it.
How did they taste?

wow. that’s crazy! that’s what you get though, for being so domestic… I’m kind of glad that my school does not allow anything homemade. It makes me feel ok about picking up a dozed lard filled twinkies instead…

Okay, this is frightening. Something very similar happened to me a few months ago with a crock pot… and a missing screw ( I liked up the post).

You got very lucky! And so did your babe!

I dont know that just doesnt happen, I wouldnt call it luck!

So how did the scones turn out with the lime instead of lemon?

21 Melissa January 19, 2010 at 3:03 pm

♥ Divine Intervention for sure!!! So was there any difference from the lemon to lime? I bet it was just as great!!! :)

22 candice January 19, 2010 at 3:53 pm

That is always my biggest fear when baking for a crowd, did I leave something out, or add too much of something, or the biggest scare..a foreign object that does not belong. Worked out great!

23 Kirsten January 19, 2010 at 4:46 pm

Oh man Angie! Glad it all ended well. I want the recipe!

Oh wow! That is definitely Divine intervention. I’m glad it worked out well and that your daughter didn’t get hurt.

Better luck with your next batch of scones. :)
